6on What time do Vignan Bo Tree buses reach the Miyapur colonies in the morning?
Not a parent there, so their bus timings I don't know. Our daughter's bus comes at 7.05, and the change that made it work was moving her bedtime to 9 and doing our talking at breakfast instead of at dinner. She eats an early dinner with whoever is home, and I sit with her for dessert when my research sessions run late.
0on 4 year old wants to stay the night at her cousins' over the festival. Too soon?
We did my daughter's first night away at my sister's when she was about 5. What helped: a bedtime video call was agreed beforehand, and we told her clearly she could come home any time, even at night, and nobody would tease her. She didn't need it. The first time we skipped the bedtime call was much harder for me than for her.
4on 9 messages in the family group today, 3 about whether she needs a cap indoors
When my daughter was a baby I started replying "noted" to every message in our group. Nobody could tell whether I'd agreed or not, which was the point.
2on Chess coach wants my 9 year old in a rated tournament after six months of classes
My daughter played her first rated event at 8, after about the same amount of coaching. Five rounds, a long day. We packed lunch, a book and a water bottle. She lost four of them and still asked when the next one was. The losing was harder for me to watch than for her. I would not wait just for that reason.
6on Some daycare parents want to 'discuss' the new child in our toddler room
My daughter's class has had a child with a shadow teacher since grade 1. There was a similar round of questions in the first month. What ended it was the class teacher explaining at a PTM how the support worked, and that the shadow teacher often helps the other kids too. Parents mostly worry about what they can't see. Could you ask the daycare to explain the aide's role at the meeting, so it doesn't turn into a 'discussion' about him?
2on sr digi dammaiguda, do they have a playgroup or only nursery onwards?
I'm in Nacharam, so that side of town. Dammaiguda is spread out, and a few kilometres can mean a very different drive depending on which roads you end up using every day. If you do rent there, decide on the commute first and then look at schools and playgroups within a short radius of the flat. When my daughter was small we found several small playgroups around ECIL, so you won't be short of options.
6on Nausea on 9 am client calls and nobody at work knows yet
I did tell my manager early, only my manager, and asked her to keep it to herself. It made the rescheduling much easier because I didn't have to invent reasons every time. Depends a lot on the manager, of course.
0on New flat in May and nursery in June? Thinking of Fr.Bendel English Medium School for our 3 year old
We're in Nacharam, which is close to Ramanthapur. If you're renting, visit at 8 in the morning on a weekday and drive the route you'd take. The side lanes can be slow and that makes a big difference with a three-year-old.
1on 16 year old has lost three days running at society badminton to an uncle in chappals
Best possible thing for a 16 year old's ego. Also my 9 year old would like to know if the uncle gives lessons.
1on Saturdays and after-school activities at St Anthony Convent School, LB Nagar, for class 4
7.05, and she's home around 4.15 on a normal day. Later when it rains, which lately is most days.
2on one thunderstorm last week and now he wakes at 3 every night pointing at the window
With my daughter it was the pressure cooker. What helped was a picture book with a storm in it, read in the daytime, and naming the sound each time we heard anything loud: that's thunder, it's loud, it's outside. Boring, but saying the same three sentences mattered more than anything we bought.
Not signing is already something. If you want to do more, write to the class teacher privately: say you've seen the letter, that your son gets on well with him, and that you'd rather hear from the school than the group if there's a real problem. Teachers notice which parents do that.
0on He can only fall asleep holding my earlobe
We moved our daughter from my ear to a small soft toy with a satin tag. The trick was letting her hold both for a week, then only the toy. It took about a month in all. And don't move while she's falling asleep. Move after.
2on Do I mention I'm a primary teacher at my son's first PTM?
I'd only bring it up if it changes something the teacher needs to know, like if your hours mean you'll mostly answer the diary late at night. Otherwise you're just a parent for those ten minutes. I keep my own work out of school meetings for a similar reason. I research how people use apps, and once a teacher knew that, the meeting turned into feedback on the school's app.
2on A month of homework in the back of our shop
Headphones for the older one, and a fixed shop job for the younger one after homework, not during. Otherwise every customer is a reason to get up. And send dinner from home in a box if you can, so it isn't snacks till 9.
1on Somewhere near Madinaguda where a 7 year old can build things with real tools?
My daughter did a weekend tinkering class at a makerspace in Banjara Hills last year, saws, hand drills and glue guns with an instructor watching closely. I'm not sure it still runs, and it is a long way from Madinaguda. At home we gave her an old switchboard and a small screwdriver set, and she spent a month taking it apart and labelling the pieces. Cheaper, and nothing to drive to.
0on Her MYP science report got flagged by the school's AI checker. She says she wrote every word
No direct experience, ours is still in primary. But I'd ask whether the IB coordinator will be in the meeting along with the teacher. At our school the coordinator handles anything to do with academic honesty and knows the process properly. Also ask your daughter to bring her rough notes or the experiment data. A lab report rests on results only she would have.
1on Does a 'feeder' playschool really help with big-school nursery admission later?
When we applied for our daughter, the school asked where she was going at the time, but the interaction was about her, not the playschool. Two children from her playschool got in and three didn't. No pattern I could see.
Fellow researcher here. Evening-only participant months are the hardest. What helped me was asking our recruiting team to cap evening sessions at two a week per study, and saying it early, before the schedule is built. They'll book 8 pm slots forever if nobody objects.
2on 7 months old and he's found his own voice. Full-volume shrieking, everywhere we go
The takeaway phase is real. We started timing meals out around our daughter's nap and sat outside when we could, which helped more than shushing ever did.
4on IB to State Board for class 4. Would Allen Primary School in Abids be a big adjustment?
The copying is a good point. Her school writes very little on the board, so she'd have no practice at that. I'll ask whether we can sit in on a class 4 lesson when we visit.
0on Both girls are in the same badminton batch, and the younger one has started winning
We see a small version of this at home with board games. My daughter refused to play Ludo for months after her cousin started winning, then came back once nobody was keeping score. If the coach can keep them on different courts for practice games for a few weeks, the elder one might keep playing without the daily comparison. I wouldn't tell her that's the reason, though.
Since it ends at 8, I'd also ask where most of their class 8 children go for class 9. If a lot of them move to one or two nearby schools, you would at least know the next step before choosing a one-year stop. A long ride for one more year might turn out to be the simpler option.
2on Telugu at home, IB at school, and my 13 year old can't read a Telugu signboard
We had the same gap with Malayalam, at a younger age. An app taught her to recognise letters but never got her reading words, and she lost interest once the badges stopped. A weekly class with other children worked better, mostly because she liked the other kids. For a 13 year old I'd ask her first whether she'd rather learn alone or in a group before paying for anything.
0on new daycare wants a 'settling interaction' with her before they confirm the seat
Asking is a good idea. When we did this for daycare years ago, the 'interaction' turned out to be them watching how she handled the nap room and whether she'd take a biscuit from a stranger. It was useful for us too. We got to see how the staff spoke to the children when they weren't performing for parents.
