IB to State Board for class 4. Would Allen Primary School in Abids be a big adjustment?

cobalt_wave_225

We're looking at options for next June, when our daughter moves into class 4. She has been in an IB primary since nursery: inquiry units, very little written homework, no marks. Allen Primary School in Wesley came up because a couple of families we know on the Nacharam side are considering it, and State Board appeals to us, partly for cost and partly because she likes structure more than we expected. The part I find hard to imagine is the change for her. Textbooks for every subject, written exams, marks on a report card. If your child moved from IB or a similar approach into State Board in the primary years, how long did the adjustment take, and what was hardest? And if anyone knows how Allen handles children joining in class 4, I'd be glad to hear it.

reading this one for later. we're arguing about boards already and he's still a baby 😄

not IB, but my son went from a play-based preschool into icse class 1 and it was the copying from the board that upset him, not the content. took him about a month to stop crying over a smudged page. the marks bothered me more than they bothered him

The copying is a good point. Her school writes very little on the board, so she'd have no practice at that. I'll ask whether we can sit in on a class 4 lesson when we visit.

state board class 4 here, a couple of years back. lots of question-answer writing, learn and write. mine liked knowing exactly what's coming in the exam 😄 depends on the kid

One thing to separate out: is the plan State Board itself, or this particular school? Friends of ours who moved from ICSE to State Board said the board change was easy compared with going from a small, calm class to a big one. Class size might matter more than the syllabus for her.
