1on School library lets him pick one book a week. He's borrowed the same space book five times
My own two were very different on this. My younger one reread one series for most of a year and moved on by herself once a friend started recommending other books. My elder never reread anything. I do not think either pattern told us much. I would ask the teacher one practical question: is the concern his reading level, or that he is not trying new books? The answer changes what you do at home.
0on How many children in a nursery section at Gowtham Model School, and how many adults?
It may also help to ask how sections are formed and whether the numbers change when the children move up to class 1. Some schools keep nursery sections smaller and then merge them later. A figure for nursery alone may not tell you what the next few years look like, and that is when your daughter would be in the larger classes.
When my daughter was three, the best place for this was a weekend storytime at a small neighbourhood library. The stories were secondary. It was twenty children of the same size on one carpet, and the parents ended up arranging park meetups afterwards. I don't know what is available near Jubilee Hills now, but libraries and bookshops are where I would start asking.
6on How many events a year need costumes or a parent on campus at Kakatiya Concept School?
I'd add one question: which of those events fall in working hours? At ours most were mid-morning on weekdays, which suits grandparents and is impossible for us. I haven't checked how Kakatiya does it, though.
2on Younger one is a slow eater and the lunch break is 20 minutes
Before changing the food, I would check how long he really gets to eat. With my daughter, the 20 minutes included washing hands and walking to the dining area, so it was closer to twelve. Once I raised it, the teacher let the slower children start a few minutes early. I can't say every school will do that, but it's worth asking.
6on Another school has invited our son to its class 6 scholarship test
One distinction that may help: decide with your partner before the test what you would do with a good result, and tell your son that plan in advance. Then the result does not make the decision for you. I have not been through a scholarship test myself, so I can only speak to the general principle, but it has worked for other decisions with my own children.
0on Two activities a week that also cover after-school hours. Is that fair to a 9 year old?
Letting the child choose one is sensible. I would add: find out what happens on days the class is cancelled. Ours has cancelled by message on the same morning more than once, and those are the days the arrangement falls apart, not the regular ones.
0on 14 yr old joined the school photography club. family photos now need eleven takes
Enjoy the stage where she wants everyone in the photo. Getting my 16 year old into a family picture now takes a negotiation.
1on Which board does Xavier Memorial High School in Moula Ali follow? We may move east next year
I'd ask him what he means, because people use it for both. We're looking at class 4 options for my daughter at the moment, and in every conversation so far 'old-style' has meant a fixed timetable, notebooks corrected by hand and fewer activities. That's only what it has meant to the people I've asked, not something I know about this school.
3on One school wants report cards, the other a 'conduct certificate'. Normal for class 8?
We were asked for this too when our son changed schools for class 8. It turned out to be a standard one-paragraph letter the office prepares; ours called it a character certificate. We requested it along with the transfer certificate, after admission was confirmed. Before that we only shared report cards. Check with the school you're applying to if it can wait till the seat is confirmed.
0on Bedtime video call with his grandparents has stretched to 40 minutes
Could the call move earlier instead of being shortened? We had a similar ritual with my in-laws and shifted it to just after dinner, before the bath. The length stopped mattering because it was no longer the last thing before sleep, and bedtime itself stayed ours.
3on I run my own studio, so somehow I'm the default for every sick day
From the other side: I'm the one with the 'regular job', and I did this to my partner for a couple of years without noticing. What changed it was agreeing that the first sick day goes to whoever has the lighter calendar that particular day, decided the night before, not to whoever is assumed to be flexible. It only works if both calendars are visible to each other. Do the two of you share calendars at the moment?
1on Chess class near KPHB for a 10 year old who now beats everyone at home?
Before choosing, I would ask each academy whether the weekend batch is grouped by age or by level. My son once joined one where he was the only beginner among older rated players, and he lost interest within a month. A level-based batch made the difference the second time.
1on Bhavan's in Sainikpuri for class 2 next year, but first: what is junior dispersal like?
No child of mine there, so the dispersal part I can't answer. What I would ask, having been through this at another school, is whether the juniors leave at a different time from the seniors. That one detail made the biggest difference to our afternoons.
0on Son's class 6 timetable has 'AI' twice a week. What do they do in it?
Was the chatbot something he built step by step, or did they use a ready tool and change its answers? Those are quite different skills, and the name on the timetable won't tell you which one the school means.
2on Cool breakfasts for a 2 year old who now pushes away anything warm
When our daughter was that age, curd rice with grated cucumber at room temperature was the summer standby. Our helper made it the night before, kept it in the fridge and took it out at six. Soaked poha with curd and a little fruit was the other. I would distinguish between food that is cool and food that is cold: straight from the fridge, she refused it as firmly as hot.
I am not school staff, so this is only from the corporate side. Two summers ago I could join our family trip only for a weekend in the middle, and it went worse than I expected: our daughter was unsettled for two days after I left. If you can manage only one visit, the last few days and travelling back together might work better for everyone.
1on Our preschooler loves kicking a ball. Anything organised for a girl this young near Nacharam?
From my daughter's experience only: she joined a mixed football group at 6 and was one of two girls. What mattered more than the starting age was whether the coach let the younger ones play without being sidelined by bigger boys. If you do find a group, I would watch one session before paying for anything.
0on Most boys in his class are starting all-subject tuition for class 5. We have managed without so far
Before deciding, it may help to find out what these centres do in those evenings. When our son's friends started tuition in class 5, most of it turned out to be finishing school homework and working ahead in the textbook. That is not the same as teaching. We did not send him then. He goes for physics coaching now, which was a decision about one subject. I cannot say how much of this applies to ICSE; ours was CBSE.
We don't know this school, so only on the timing. When we looked into this for our son, we were told class 9 is the last comfortable point to move in CBSE, because the board registration for class 10 is done through the school during class 9. A class 10 move is possible but involves more paperwork, and some schools simply don't take class 10 joiners. Please check with the school directly; this was what we heard a couple of years ago.
