School office runs all through May, so my partner and daughter are off to the grandparents without me

Admissions, timetables, teacher interviews. A vice principal's May is busier than April. My partner is on a career break and our daughter is off till June, so the obvious plan is the two of them spend three weeks at my in-laws' and I join for a long weekend. She's fine with it. My partner's fine with it. I'm the one sulking. Last summer I managed ten days. Do other school-staff parents just accept that the summer belongs to the rest of the family? Or is there a way to carve out a proper week that I'm missing

I am not school staff, so this is only from the corporate side. Two summers ago I could join our family trip only for a weekend in the middle, and it went worse than I expected: our daughter was unsettled for two days after I left. If you can manage only one visit, the last few days and travelling back together might work better for everyone.

my partner's on a career break too. honest answer is yes, the summer belongs to them this year. we tell ourselves it's a good problem to have. doesn't always work

My sister is a teacher and has the same May problem every year. She takes the stretch when results and records are being finished, when she's needed for only a couple of hours a day, and works from her in-laws' place for that week. Is any part of your May lighter like that, even for three or four days?

different job, same may rush at the factory. partner and baby went to my partner's parents for 10 days in april without me. day 3 regretting it, day 8 enjoying the quiet, day 10 regretting again 😅
