Another school has invited our son to its class 6 scholarship test

A flyer came home through a neighbour's son and our boy picked it up. A school nearby runs a scholarship test for children joining class 6, and he's keen to sit it 'just to see'. He likes his current school. We weren't planning to move him. My partner says let him write it, it's practice. I'm not sure what happens at home if he does well and then we say no, or if he does badly after building it up for a month. Has your child written one of these without any plan to move? How did it go afterwards?

My elder one wrote one like this in class 5, purely for the experience :) She enjoyed the day more than the test, there was a canteen samosa involved. Kids treat it like an outing. We hadn't planned to move either and nothing came of it, she forgot about it in a week. I think we were the ones who overthought it.

One distinction that may help: decide with your partner before the test what you would do with a good result, and tell your son that plan in advance. Then the result does not make the decision for you. I have not been through a scholarship test myself, so I can only speak to the general principle, but it has worked for other decisions with my own children.
