0on 20 minutes to finish my notes and my 2 year old wants to type too
Our caregiver keeps a small box that only comes out when I need to work: stickers, a tin of clothes pegs, a few board books. Because it isn't out all day, it holds his attention longer. He's under one, so I can't promise it scales to two, but the special-box idea might.
1on Paediatrician asked for her last weight and neither of us could find it
We keep one physical file that goes in the bag to every appointment, no exceptions. Whoever attends photographs any new page that same day into a shared album both of us can see. The original vaccination card lives in the file, never in a drawer. The rule that matters is "same day"; anything left for later gets lost.
1on Our caregiver feeds the baby while walking him round the building. I can't do that every evening
Finger food is a good thought. He grabs everything already, so giving him something to hold might buy me more than four spoons.
4on Now that he crawls everywhere, what do you mop the floor with?
That's a sensible split. Our helper starts at 8, so the strong cleaner can go to the kitchen and bathrooms only and the rest gets the milder mix. Will try it this week.
0on Our 8 month old reaches for the part-time helper over his full-time caregiver, and she's noticed
She does get play time with him, a fair amount. I think what bothers her is that he does it in front of me, and she worries I'll draw conclusions. How do I tell her it's fine without it sounding like I'm comparing the two of them?
2on 3 month old stops feeding to stare at anyone who walks into the room
Still happening here at 8 months, except now he also reaches for whatever the person walking in is holding. A dark room is still the only setup that works for the last feed before bed.
3on Wrist link or reins for a new walker in the apartment parking. Do people here use them?
We're not walking yet, so no verdict from me. At school our nursery staff use a walking rope with handles when they take the little ones across campus, and the children treat it as a game rather than a restraint. The trick seemed to be that the rope came out only for the walk to the bus, never as a punishment. A wrist link used only in the basement might be read the same way by a one year old.
0on Our 8 month old is fine when I log off, and howls when my partner leaves for office
Ours has just started something like this at the evening handover from his caregiver, so I'm reading with interest. The advice I was given is to keep the goodbye short and never sneak out, because sneaking makes the door-watching worse. Too early for me to say whether it works.
0on Back at work three weeks, and our 7 month old has started making up for it at night
Up with him now, so that answers the 'when' question for tonight. School is 40 minutes away, so no lunch visits. Six weeks sounds survivable, though. Will ask the caregiver about fixed times tomorrow.
2on Five months old and he only wants to be held facing out
We put a mat in the middle of the hall last evening, right at the edge of all the activity. Twenty minutes of happy kicking before he wanted to be picked up, which is twenty minutes more than usual.
1on Home baby scale for weekly weight checks: useful, or a recipe for weighing him four times a day?
We didn't buy one, and at five months I'm glad. The clinic weights were enough for us. A friend who had a home scale said the number moved by a lot depending on how much the baby wriggled, which only made her more anxious. If you do get one, weigh at the same time of day and only write down one number a week.
