Gift for a colleague's baby shower. What did you really use in the first month?

A colleague's baby shower is next week. The group gift is sorted, but I'd like to bring something small of my own. My son is eight months now and I already can't remember what was truly useful in those first weeks and what we were given and never opened. I know what I'd skip: tiny shoes, a third baby blanket. What did you end up using every single day?

Sixteen years ago, but I remember this clearly: a stack of plain cotton cloths. We used them for everything, burping, wiping, spreading on the bed. Nobody gives them because they aren't pretty. And a meal, if she lives near you. Food in the second week was worth more than anything in a box.

Yes, the cotton cloths. My amma brought a whole bundle from Palakkad, old mundu cut into squares, so soft. I still use two for wiping the table. Food also, very true.

A small nightlight with a dim warm setting. We were up every two hours, the overhead light woke everyone and the phone torch was useless. Cheap, tiny, and I used it for a year 🙂
