Our 8 month old is fine when I log off, and howls when my partner leaves for office

We alternate office days. On mine he barely looks up. On my partner's days he screams at the door for ten minutes and keeps checking it all morning. Started about two weeks back. Is this the separation thing everyone talks about, and does it pass? Partner feels terrible walking out.

Ours has just started something like this at the evening handover from his caregiver, so I'm reading with interest. The advice I was given is to keep the goodbye short and never sneak out, because sneaking makes the door-watching worse. Too early for me to say whether it works.

Something like it happened with us around eight or nine months, only reversed. My early calls meant I'd left before she woke, so she was clingy with me in the evenings instead. It eased after a few weeks. The thing I'd add is that the parent who stays gets the hard ten minutes, so it helps if that person has a plan for the first half hour that isn't a work call.
