20 minutes to finish my notes and my 2 year old wants to type too

moss_moon_3419

On my days at home I usually have about 20 minutes of reports to finish. My daughter is 2. The moment the laptop opens she's on my lap pressing keys. Her grandmother is with her most of the day, but that's exactly when she takes her own break, which is fair. I'd rather not put a screen on for her. What can a 2 year old do on her own for 20 minutes, in the same room, that isn't my laptop? Ideally something I can see from the table.

A laptop of her own. We gave our son an old keyboard with the cable cut off at about that age and he sat next to me 'working' for a good while. Didn't last the full 20 every day, but often enough. At 7 he only wants my real laptop, so enjoy this stage.

There's an old keyboard sitting in a cupboard here. Trying it this weekend.

Does she sit with a bowl of water and a few cups? Keeps my 10 month old busy on the floor for a while. Not sure how it goes at 2.

Water play while you type reports, though? With my two at that age a bowl of water on the floor meant mopping, not working 🙂 I'd keep water for when you can watch properly.

Our caregiver keeps a small box that only comes out when I need to work: stickers, a tin of clothes pegs, a few board books. Because it isn't out all day, it holds his attention longer. He's under one, so I can't promise it scales to two, but the special-box idea might.
