0on Would a basic smartwatch for work alerts keep my phone off the dinner table?
Same spot with a one year old. My problem isn't alerts. It's that I "just check" email between bites. A watch wouldn't fix that for me, sadly.
0on First long work trip since my daughter started school. How do you prepare a 6 year old?
We go through the calendar together before any trip, though with a 1 year old it's mostly about the adults. What I've seen colleagues with school-age kids do: one call at the same time every day, short, even on the worst day. They say the predictability matters more than the length. And tell her the plan only a few days before. Ten days of countdown is a long time at 6.
0on Preschool calls at 11 to say she has a temperature. Who leaves work, and how do you decide?
Ours is still in daycare and we've had only one sick call so far. After that one we marked the meetings we really can't move in a shared calendar, so the next call is a glance and not a debate. Too early to say whether it lasts ❤
4on siva vidya niketan in quthbullapur for class 5 next year? his cricket academy is out that way
No experience with that school, sorry. But I'd think hard before moving school for an activity at 9 or 10. My brother changed schools for cricket at about that age, gave up the academy two years later, and was left with the long commute and none of the cricket.
2on 3 year old wants whatever's on my plate, and my food is properly spicy
We're only starting solids with my daughter, but my mother's trick was always taking out the child's portion before the final tadka. Same dal, same vegetables, the chilli just goes in after. She also adds a spoon of curd or ghee on the child's plate. Takes the heat down without looking any different ❤️
0on ICSE to CBSE for class 5 if we end up near Amberpet. Anyone looked at Sri Vidya Secondary School?
Up with the baby, so reading old threads. When you visit, go around closing time and not only to the office. You see how pickup works, how the older kids are around the little ones, and you can usually catch a parent at the gate to ask a couple of things. It's what I plan to do when our turn comes.
0on Home after midnight again, and my toddler now reaches past me for my partner
Reading this at 7 am before a flight. Mine is still small enough that she'll go to anyone holding milk, but I already feel it after a two-day trip. The first evening back she looks at me like a visiting aunt ❤️
1on my 7 year old has been checking on the idli batter every hour like it's a patient
'It's thinking' 😄 My mother does the same thing every winter, wraps the vessel in a towel and keeps it near the stove. Your daughter is just more polite about it.
2on Both our jobs finish late without warning, and the caregiver leaves at 7
We fix days. Monday and Wednesday are mine to leave on time no matter what, Tuesday and Thursday are my partner's. Friday is whoever loses the argument. It only works because it sits on both our work calendars as a recurring meeting. People respect a meeting far more than 'I need to leave' ❤️
2on My release weeks and my partner's quarterly planning keep landing in the same fortnight
We're about to find out. My partner's year-end close and my client go-live are both in March, and our daughter will be just over one by then. Reading every answer here.
We got a small inverter when our daughter was born, mostly for the fan in her room, and used it far more than we expected. Not only in the rains. Get the battery size worked out for the load you need. The shop tried to sell us one that would run the whole flat.
1on Found a café near Nizampet with a clean changing table. We've been back three times this week
Too far for us in Tolichowki, but now I'm looking at every café near us differently. Is there a sink? A sofa? It never occurred to me to check ❤️
2on ICSE to State Board in middle school? Considering Educare High School in Shaikpet, ten minutes away
Can't speak for middle school, mine is still a baby. But we drive past there every morning, and the ten minutes is real if you leave before 7.45. After that the main road backs up. Forty minutes less in the car, twice a day, is a lot of her evenings back ♥
1on Our 4 month old screams at the oven timer, and only the oven timer
Phone on vibrate is what I use for everything now. Even the mixie waits till she's out for her walk with her dad.
2on Walking everywhere, but only while holding both my fingers. My back has opinions
Ours is nowhere near walking, barely sitting up, and I'm already worried for my back after reading this. Up at 3 with a teething baby, so this made me laugh.
