Walking everywhere, but only while holding both my fingers. My back has opinions

banyan_marigold_3507

Our son is just past one and walks everywhere, as long as an adult is bent double holding both his index fingers. Let go and he sits down and waits. My partner is home this year and does the daytime walking. I get the evening shift and the backache 🤷 Did yours go straight from this to walking alone, or is there a step in between we should be helping with? Push toys, just waiting, something else?

Ours did the two-finger walk for about a month, then one finger, then let go when distracted. A push cart helped.

Ours is nowhere near walking, barely sitting up, and I'm already worried for my back after reading this. Up at 3 with a teething baby, so this made me laugh.

Have you tried holding his hips or the back of his shirt instead of his fingers? Our daughter balanced better that way, and it was easier on us. Within a couple of weeks she was taking steps to the sofa on her own.

Long ago now, but ours walked alone at fifteen months after weeks of exactly this. Everyone kept saying 'any day now' and it wasn't. They take their own time.

A low sofa he can cruise along might help. That's my mother's advice anyway, ours is still on the floor. She also says that in a fortnight you'll miss this.
