0on My 16 year old has started charging her brother for maths help
That's a fair trade. A good part of what I know about my phone settings came from a 9 year old, and none of it was free.
1on Does anyone keep a baby kit permanently in the car?
Yes, until the day we needed it and the diapers in the boot were a size too small. Check the box once a month and every time he moves up a size. Clothes too. A spare outfit is no use if it fit him in the summer.
0on First badminton class. She spent it collecting everyone's shuttles
Did she enjoy it? Then the hour was not wasted.
A dot behind the ear is still kajal on a three month old's skin. Did the doctor say anything about that, or only about the eyes? Check before you offer it as the compromise.
4on Anything for nursery children after school hours at St Josephs High School, Patancheru?
Define after-hours when you ask. A teacher supervising until 4 and a child sitting in the office waiting are very different answers, and you'll get the vague one unless you ask for the specific one.
1on went to buy one big pot for the curry leaf plant, came back with four plants and no pot
Order it online and have it delivered. You clearly can't be trusted at the nursery.
3on Office going to five days a week from October. I'm the pickup parent
I start at 7 for overseas calls and leave at 4. Nobody minds because the hours are visible. Put yours on the calendar.
4on Class 4 daughter reads under the blanket with a torch after lights out
That's the annoying part. She isn't. Up before the alarm, cheerful. I'm the one who's tired from checking.
0on Class 4 daughter reads under the blanket with a torch after lights out
No tablets in bedrooms here, that one rule is holding. It's a mystery series, book four of seven. So three more weeks of this, minimum.
2on Class 3 weekly assessments are open-book now, so he's stopped revising anything
Open-book how? Textbook only, or notebooks too? And what do the questions look like? If they are still fill-in-the-blanks from page 23, not revising costs him nothing. If they ask him to explain why, the book won't save him for long. Ask to see one paper before you decide anything.
0on Grade 5 exhibition topic already, and her group has picked the stray dogs in our lane
Why does the society committee need to be interviewed by ten year olds on a Saturday? If it's a phone call, they can do it with you on speaker on an evening you're home. Not everything has to be in person.
4on Is there any dance class where an 8 year old and his dad can learn together?
Did the studio say no, or did you assume? A lot of studios run one-off weekend workshops where the age rule is looser. Ask them directly before you go hunting elsewhere.
0on Aai is staying with us till August. What do I do with our caregiver's hours meanwhile?
Pay her full. Cutting it now and expecting her back in September is wishful thinking. What exactly is she doing in the afternoons? 'Sitting around' could mean she has nothing to do, or that nobody has told her what to do.
0on Nursery to class 12 in one building. Do families at Lead Grammar in Tolichowki stay the whole way?
'Everyone moves after 10' covers two different things. Either the school's 11-12 isn't what families want, or families want a coaching-linked college whatever the school does. Ask the school how many of its own class 10 stay on. That number will tell you more than either of us can.
0on Ten days of exam valuation duty from next Monday, and nobody home when the van drops him
What's the actual gap, 3.45 to what time? And is there any adult in the building he knows by name, watchman, neighbour, anyone? Answer those first and the options get much narrower.
1on Grade 3 runs a 'class economy' with paper money, and she's already in debt to two classmates
Don't bail her out with real money. That's the only rule I'd have. My daughter's class did this last year and the kids whose parents 'topped up' learned nothing.
4on Two-page 'All about my child' form for the new class teacher. How candid are you?
Write it. Teachers find out within a week anyway, and I'd rather mine heard 'she sulks when corrected publicly, a quiet word works' from me than worked it out the hard way. Keep it to what helps them act, not a description of her personality.
0on Daycare wants an 'admission fee' to move him up to their pre-nursery, in the same building
A friend's son moved up at that age and for him it was a real change. Fixed circle time, a bit of colouring, more outdoor play. Also a higher fee. Both can be true. Ask what he'll be doing between 10 and 12 that he doesn't do now.
2on Power goes off at night twice a week now, and our toddler wakes the moment the fan stops
Rechargeable table fan. Charge it in the day, keep it by the cot. Weaker than the ceiling fan, but half asleep she won't know the difference.
0on Looking at Alkapuri Model School for nursery, though we'd always assumed CBSE
What do you mean by 'unhurried'? Fewer worksheets, a shorter day, smaller classes? Those are school-level things, not board-level. A CBSE school can be calm and a State Board one can be a pressure cooker. I'd separate the two questions.
1on my mum can do pickups from the amberpet side. anyone with little ones at sri sai rama high school?
Also ask who covers when your mother is unwell or travelling. A school chosen around one grandparent is fragile. What's the backup?
1on son's re-registration and daughter's lkg admission fee due the same week
Bold text is for people who don't ask. Write to them, don't call. Say it's two children in the same school, offer the LKG fee by the 20th and the elder's by month end. A written request usually gets a written answer.
