Does anyone keep a baby kit permanently in the car?

Our son is 7 months. Short walks are easy now. Anything longer, like the trip to my in-laws' place on the weekend, still takes us close to an hour of packing and repacking, and we always forget one thing. I'm thinking of a box that just lives in the boot: spare clothes, diapers, wipes, a sheet, a few plastic bags. Then we only carry the bag with the day's food and milk. Has anyone done this and kept it up? What belongs in it and what doesn't?

Yes, until the day we needed it and the diapers in the boot were a size too small. Check the box once a month and every time he moves up a size. Clothes too. A spare outfit is no use if it fit him in the summer.

And with the heat here, nothing in the boot that can melt or spoil. Wipes dry out faster than you'd expect in a closed car, so keep them in a zip bag. We kept our box going for about a year and the useful things turned out to be clothes, a towel and bags.
