Aai is staying with us till August. What do I do with our caregiver's hours meanwhile?

My aai came last week and has completely taken over the little one. Bath, khana, nap, all hers now, and she's very happy doing it. Our caregiver is mostly sitting around in the afternoons, and yesterday she asked if she should 'take some leave'. I need her back fully in September when aai goes home. If I cut her hours or pay, I'm scared she'll find another house by then. If I keep everything the same, aai feels I don't trust her with her own grandson. How have others handled a grandparent's long visit with a caregiver already in the house?

Pay her full. Cutting it now and expecting her back in September is wishful thinking. What exactly is she doing in the afternoons? 'Sitting around' could mean she has nothing to do, or that nobody has told her what to do.

full pay, yes. when my mother visited for a few weeks we moved our nanny onto the girls' homework hour and dinner prep. nobody was idle and nobody's toes got stepped on

Have you asked the caregiver what she would like to take over while your mother is there? She may already have an answer.

Asked her last night after dinner. She wants to keep coming and take over my daughter's school pickup and evening study time, which helps me more than anything. Also told me quietly that aai puts too much ghee in his khichdi 😄 So the two of them will be fine.
