Class 4 daughter reads under the blanket with a torch after lights out

ochre_diary_6404

The school library started letting them borrow two books a week this term. Since then there's a torch glow under her blanket at 10.30 most nights. Lights out is 9.15. It's books, not a screen, so part of me wants to let it go. The other part wakes her at 6.15 for the van. Confiscate the torch, move bedtime, or ignore it?

Ha, my 10 year old did exactly this, except his torch was the one from the emergency kit and we found out during a power cut. We moved his lights out 20 minutes later and said reading in bed is allowed till then, torch goes back in the kitchen drawer after. Mostly works. Some nights I still see a glow.

Arre, a torch and a book? I'd take that any day. Mine tries the same trick with the tablet under the razai and that's a much bigger fight 🙂 Maybe ask her what she's reading. Half the time with my son it's one series he can't put down, and it passes once the series is done.

No tablets in bedrooms here, that one rule is holding. It's a mystery series, book four of seven. So three more weeks of this, minimum.

I did this as a child and my amma pretended not to notice for years. I only found out she knew when I was in college. Is she tired in the mornings, though? That's what I'd decide on.

That's the annoying part. She isn't. Up before the alarm, cheerful. I'm the one who's tired from checking.

      Replying to @ochre_diary_6404

Let her have it. My son read like that till about 11 and then stopped almost overnight. I'd happily have the torch under the blanket back.
