Ugh, overlapping trips. Nobody has done a full night with ours except us, she's 2, so I'm reading with interest. Would an evening helper just for bath and dinner work? I'd guess that stretch is the most tiring part for a grandparent, more than the day.
0on Habsiguda to Abids every morning with a 3 year old. St. George's Grammar School worth the drive?
how did you explain it to him once you'd picked one? mine is 2 and we start this next year. already dreading the 'is this my school' phase 🙈
4on Do you go around collecting your toddler's toys back from the bigger kids?
We're at the other end of this. Mine is 2 and she's the one walking off with other kids' spades, so I'm the mother handing things back at 7 :) For what it's worth, I don't think anyone finds you petty. Most of us are relieved when the owner comes round, because then nobody has to remember whose blue car it was.
1on Damp patch behind the boys' bunk bed after the rains. Who fixes this properly around Puppalaguda?
We had ours done last year on an outer wall. The outside work took a day, plus a day to dry, then the inside another two because the plaster had to dry before painting. We moved the cot into our room for the week. It has held through this monsoon so far, which is more than the repaint managed 🙂
0on After-school daycare says take the full Dasara programme or lose her regular seat
Ours did exactly this for the summer break. We paid for the whole thing and used about half. Annoying, but keeping the regular spot mattered more to us than the money. Did they put it in writing or just say it at pickup?
0on Weekend drama or theatre class for a 7 year old around Masab Tank?
Not in your area, but my nephew's weekend theatre group spends most of the session on games and improvising, and only a little on scripts. He loved it for exactly the reason you mention. Ask whichever place you find what a typical session looks like.
6on 8 month old gags on the first lump and now the nanny is blending everything again
Ours gagged on everything for maybe three or four weeks and then it quietly stopped being a thing. What helped the adults more than the baby was mashing with a fork instead of the blender, so the lumps were small and soft and you could see they weren't big chunks. Our caregiver relaxed once she could see the texture for herself 🙂
1on Hair wash day ends with her screaming and me soaked to the elbows
Yes, it's the pouring. No hand shower in that bathroom, but there's one in ours. Trying it this week.
3on Tailor near Kondapur who will stitch soft cotton baby clothes from old saris?
We had the same stiff-clothes problem and ended up buying plain muslin from a shop in Gachibowli and getting a home tailor to finish the edges. Took two weeks, but they've lasted through two sizes 🙂
We go to my mother's in Secunderabad most Sundays and come through Marredpally. Before 9 it's fine. After 10 the market roads get slow, so it depends on the batch time. Parking I can't tell you, we've never stopped near the school 🙂
3on Saturdays and after-school activities at St Anthony Convent School, LB Nagar, for class 4
No idea about the school, but 50 minutes each way at that age sounds exhausting. We're already dreading this for our toddler later. What time does she leave home now?
1on Missed my 10 year old's first speaking part at assembly because the toddler had a fever
No older kids here yet, but I was the older one in my family. What I remember is that nobody asked me to do it again for them at home. Ask her to perform it in the living room, full seriousness, just for you?
6on Will two years of daycare count for anything when we apply for nursery?
Same question in our house! My mother-in-law has the 'calmer' theory too. Ours has been in daycare since 7 months and she is the least calm person I know 🙂
0on five months old and he grabs fistfuls of my hair during every feed
Same with ours at that age, it was my nose ring 😬 Ended up keeping a teether with a ribbon in my pocket and swapping it into her hand whenever she reached. Worked maybe half the time 🙂
3on Kerala store around Alwal or Secunderabad for banana chips and puttu podi?
following. my partner's colleague brings chips back from every trip home and it's never enough 🙂
0on lease is up in a few months. is 'academic heights is close' a silly reason to stay in miyapur
Agree with asking something specific. We started a list when ours turned one, and the specific questions were the ones that got real answers. No information on this school though, sorry 🙂
1on Our daughter has opened a restaurant in the hall. Aaji does all the cooking
How long before she starts charging aaji? That's when you'll know it's a real business. Ours is only one and already runs the house, so I'm taking notes.
0on Whose phone rules apply when my 8 year old nephew spends Sundays at our place?
I had exactly this uncle growing up (ours is still a toddler), and my mother's problem was never the extra screen time. It was me coming home saying 'mama lets me'. Agree a number with your sister once, and then you can say 'your amma and I decided' instead of no. Takes it off you 🙂
2on Granddaughter cries when her mother comes to take her home from my place
Daycare version of this here. My daughter wails when I come to collect her and reaches back for her didi, and I've cried in the car more than once. Her teacher told me kids often hold it together all day and let it out with the person they feel safest with. Not sure that makes it hurt less, but it helped me a little.
0on Rosary Convent in Abids is a family tradition on my partner's side. We live in Nallagandla
Does your partner want it, or is it only your mother-in-law? That changes the whole conversation.
2on Daycare wants her to have a 'comfort object' for the toddler room. She's never had one
Okay, I put a small muslin cloth and an elephant near her last night and again at today's nap. She has thrown the elephant out of the cot twice and fallen asleep holding the cloth. Too early to say, but the towel story has given me hope.
