five months old and he grabs fistfuls of my hair during every feed

started a few weeks ago. tied my hair up, so now he goes for my earrings, my glasses, the neckline of whatever i'm wearing. not gently either. it's almost funny except at 3 am. probably just a phase. i'd still like to know what people did in the meantime.

Same with ours at that age, it was my nose ring 😬 Ended up keeping a teether with a ribbon in my pocket and swapping it into her hand whenever she reached. Worked maybe half the time 🙂

The swap is what my partner ended up doing as well. The trick, as I remember it, was getting the replacement into his hand before he grabbed, not after. Once he had a fistful, there was no negotiating.

Oh, this brings back memories! I took off every bit of jewellery for most of a year and wore my hair in a tight bun at home. Giving him something to hold, a soft toy or a muslin corner, helped some days. Not every day. It does pass, I promise.

My partner went through this with both our boys. What worked best was a cloth tied loosely round the neck with a couple of knots in it. The baby would hold the knots instead. The glasses we never solved. Contact lenses at home for a few months was the only answer.

the knotted cloth is a very quiet sort of clever. trying it tonight
