8 month old gags on the first lump and now the nanny is blending everything again

we moved to slightly lumpy food last week. every time there's a bit of texture he gags, goes red, pushes it forward and carries on eating. nanny finds it scary so she's back to blending everything smooth. my mother is on her side. how long did the gagging phase last for yours

Ours gagged on everything for maybe three or four weeks and then it quietly stopped being a thing. What helped the adults more than the baby was mashing with a fork instead of the blender, so the lumps were small and soft and you could see they weren't big chunks. Our caregiver relaxed once she could see the texture for herself 🙂

fork mashing might be the middle step she'll accept. will try it with dal rice this week

ours did this for ages and the grandparents went back to smooth food every time we weren't looking. he's 4 now and still picks every lump out of his khichdi so make of that what you will

my younger one was the same with lumps and eats everything now. the older one had smooth food till nearly one and he's the fussy one. no idea if it's connected tbh, kids just come different
