Daycare wants her to have a 'comfort object' for the toddler room. She's never had one

ivory_camera_418

Our daughter moves up to the toddler room at daycare in June, and the handover note asks parents to send a comfort object, a soft toy or small blanket she uses for sleep. The trouble is she has never attached to anything. She falls asleep on whoever is holding her, or with her hand on my arm. Do I just pick a soft toy now and hope it sticks by June? Can you even make a child attach to something, or is it a thing they choose?

Our daughter had a hand towel. A hand towel. We bought her three soft toys and she chose a towel from the bathroom rack at about one. It's still in her cupboard and she's in college. So, my vote: offer a few things and see what she picks. I don't think you can make it happen.

Okay, I put a small muslin cloth and an elephant near her last night and again at today's nap. She has thrown the elephant out of the cot twice and fallen asleep holding the cloth. Too early to say, but the towel story has given me hope.

Why do they want one? Ask them. If it's for nap time, ask what they do for the children who don't have one, because there will be several. Don't buy something for a form.
