Will two years of daycare count for anything when we apply for nursery?

Our son started daycare at a few months old because we both work and I'm on the road most weeks. By the time nursery admissions come round, he'll have spent close to two years in a daycare room. A relative is convinced schools prefer children who've been at home with family, because they're 'calmer'. A colleague says the opposite, that daycare kids settle faster and schools like that. I suspect neither of them has asked a school. Does it come up in nursery interactions or forms at all? We're on the Ameerpet side, if that matters.

Same question in our house! My mother-in-law has the 'calmer' theory too. Ours has been in daycare since 7 months and she is the least calm person I know 🙂

Twenty years ago my daughter went from a crèche straight into LKG, and the only thing the school asked was whether she was toilet trained. Things may have changed since, but I doubt the 'calmer' theory has much behind it 🙂

From the school side: in the places I've worked, previous daycare isn't a criterion. Some forms ask about earlier childcare so the teachers know what the child is used to, not to rank anyone. The interaction is short and mostly play. If anything helps, it's a child who's comfortable in a group with an adult who isn't a parent, and your son will have plenty of that. Don't let the relatives worry you ❤
