0on School worksheet asked what her father does in the morning. My 9 year old wrote "He leaves."
At least it's accurate. My son told his class I 'fix computers that are not broken'. I test software, so it's closer to the truth than I'd like.
1on Guardian doing the daily school run, enquiring at Unicent School Hafeezpet for my niece
Not at this school, but I went through the same thing for my son's caregiver at an IB school. There the admission form only needed the parents. Pickup authorisation was a separate form: name, photo, ID copy and the parents' signatures for each adult allowed to collect him. The gate staff had a copy. I'd ask the Unicent office directly whether they have a separate authorised-adult form, and whether it can list you for school communication as well as pickup. Those are sometimes two different permissions.
2on Class 10 daughter studying past midnight. Worth raising the workload with school?
Our son is younger, so not board year. One thing that helped when we talked to his teachers: for one week we noted what came home each day and roughly how long each piece took, and carried that list to the meeting. It moved the conversation from 'he seems overloaded' to specific items, and the teachers responded to the specifics. A week of notes is enough.
4on 9 year old wants the competitive swim group. Coach says not yet
Before switching, ask both places for an actual week: distance or sets, how many meets a year, and what happens if she misses sessions during exams. At some pools 'competitive' mostly means longer. At others it means a meet every month. Those are very different commitments.
2on Our caregiver is leaving at the end of the month. How did you overlap a replacement?
A practical point on the overlap: try to make the overlap days ordinary school days, not a weekend or a holiday. The new person needs to see the 3 o'clock arrival, the homework negotiation and the 7 pm dinner, not a quiet Sunday. We learnt that from a trial week that fell during exam leave and told us nothing.
1on Brother-in-law keeps recommending St Josephs High School in Patancheru. We live in Motinagar
I'd look at the ordinary day before the school. For a three year old, what time would the van have to leave Motinagar, and does any route even come that far? Ask that first. If the answer is a 6.45 pickup or no route at all, the rest of the comparison doesn't matter much for nursery.
1on Toddler hits me when I come home late, and only me
From memory, my son went through something like this around that age, and it faded once our evenings became predictable. The first ten minutes after I came in were floor time, no phone, nothing in my hands. Hard to do in a late week, I know, mine run late too.
3on do the primary classes at little buds grammer in nallakunta go on any field trips
Not a parent there. When we were choosing, I asked each school when the last trip was and where it went. "We do trips" and "class 4 went to the science centre in February" turned out to be very different answers.
1on Asked visitors to wash their hands before holding our 2 month old. My uncle took it personally
Make it a household routine rather than a request to one person. A basin and soap near the door, and you wash your own hands first in front of everyone when someone arrives. People resent being singled out far more than they resent the habit itself.
4on Our son's autistic friend is staying the afternoon without his mother for the first time
Ask how he usually lets someone know he has had enough. Some children say it, some go quiet or leave the room, and you don't want to read that as rudeness. Also agree a fixed pickup time so the afternoon has a clear end. When a classmate of my son's came over last year, his mother told us he liked to know the plan in advance, so we wrote it on a sheet: lunch, film, cake, pickup at 5. It made the whole visit easier.
0on Shoe shop near Gachibowli where they measure a child's feet properly?
Wherever you buy, check the fit yourself as well: a thumb's width beyond the longest toe while she is standing, and shop in the evening, when feet are slightly larger. Most staff won't do this unless you ask.
0on Carrier that doesn't wreck a tall dad's back? She's 5 months and heavier every week
Does that hold for the soft wrap type as well? Our son was carried in one for months and I don't remember a belt on it, but I also remember a sore back for most of that year.
3on Moved near Shamirpet recently. Son needs a class 1 seat and schools open next week
One practical thing: write down what each school tells you about timings, transport and the second language on the same page, right after each visit. After four schools in one week they blur together, and the office won't always repeat it the same way.
4on preschool in our community is taking registrations for babies who aren't one yet
For a sense of scale: we began looking at schools for our son about eight months before he was due to start nursery, and even that felt early at the time. A preschool inside your own community has an obvious reason to lock families in. The admission that will matter more later is the one for a full school, and those schools announce their timelines each year. You have time to see how things look when he's walking and talking.
Our son's grandparents do the same, also from Kerala. We turned it round: he asks them a question back about whatever he did in school that week. They lose more often than they'd like to admit, and the comments about the school stopped.
1on Our 10 year old was removed from the class group chat by the classmate who runs it
Agree. Ours was removed and re-added three times in one term. Each time he was sure it was the end of the world, and each time it was over by the following Monday.
