6on Relatives say start cow's milk at 10 months. Our doctor said wait till one
I was one of those relatives once, with my grandson. My daughter told me, very politely, that the doctor sees him every month and I see him every Sunday. It was a fair point. Most grandparents do mean well; we just remember our own children and forget how much the advice has changed.
I agree, with one addition. My grandson's friends who changed boards in primary mostly had a rough first term with the second language, more than with maths. If the boy has done Hindi as second language in CBSE, find out what the school expects in Telugu and whether they give new joiners any time to catch up.
2on he has learnt to shake his head for no. uses it for everything including yes
My grandson did exactly this. For about a month every answer was a firm no while he took the thing anyway. Then one morning the nod arrived and he used that for everything instead, including 'shall we have a bath'. I found the no phase more entertaining.
6on son finishes homework in 20 minutes at his grandparents' place. at home it takes the whole evening
My grandson comes to us three afternoons a week and he is the same. From the grandparent's chair: nothing else is happening in our house at that hour. No calls, no cooking rush, the TV stays off till he is done. I read the paper next to him. He knows I won't be pulled away, so he doesn't sit waiting for me to be.
The best teachers are often the ones who let a child follow them around. Do tell the plumber. It will make his week.
3on back at the lab on monday after six months. how did your first week back go
I'd add one thing about evenings. When my daughter went back to work, the first evenings were hard because she rushed home expecting the baby to be up and waiting, and he was fast asleep. Ask the caregiver to keep the late afternoon nap short that week, so you get some time with him in the evening.
6on My sister's 2 year old wants a star on every scribble she brings me, not a tick
Keep a few of those starred pages aside and give them to her mother when they leave. My grandson's 'homework' from that age is still in my drawer.
0on EuroSchool Kukatpally from class 2: what do working parents do after the last bell?
I can't speak for EuroSchool. Two things from watching my grandson's class, though. Ask the office directly whether they have an after-school option or a daycare they are used to working with; schools usually know which daycares collect from their gate. And ask how dispersal works for children going to a daycare rather than home, because that handover is where things go wrong in the first weeks.
0on Kiran International School, Boduppal, for two sisters joining together next June
Sensible. When my son was looking for my grandson's school, one place would not discuss a seat until they had seen the last report card and met the child briefly. Keep report cards ready for both girls so you are not chasing them later.
0on Son's class 6 timetable has 'AI' twice a week. What do they do in it?
My grandson's class 1 has a lighter version and I've been through his workbook: tracing paths, 'what comes next' patterns, and a page asking which jobs a machine can do and which it can't. Quite sensible, for what it is. I worked in software for forty years and would have been happy with that as a start. Whether the class 6 version is as sensible will depend on who teaches it.
I drive through Yousufguda most mornings. Between 8 and 9 the main road is slow but it moves. Coming from Gachibowli I'd allow forty minutes, more when it rains.
3on Four months in and relatives still turn up on Sundays without calling
As a grandparent: most of us come because we are afraid of missing these months, not to be a nuisance. A fixed time we can count on makes it easier to stay away the rest of the week. If you can, send a photo or a short video now and then. It reduces the urge to drive over.
2on lal bahadur high school in kachiguda is on my office route. worth a look for class 1 in 2027?
My grandson's parents chose by office route, and the next year one of their offices moved. Now there are two cross-city drives a week. If I were choosing again I would weigh home first and office second.
0on The knife-sharpening man came down our lane in Motinagar, and my daughter queued up with her pencils
In Ameerpet one still comes on Sunday mornings, usually around nine, so they haven't disappeared. My grandson watches the sparks from the gate and asks the same three questions every time. It's fifteen good minutes of peace for everyone.
