Relatives say start cow's milk at 10 months. Our doctor said wait till one

umber_balcony_8628

My son is 10 months and eating most things now. At the last visit our paediatrician said to stay with what we're doing and talk about cow's milk at the one-year check. The family, on both sides, thinks this is ridiculous. My mother-in-law has decided the caregiver can quietly start it while I'm on my outstation demos lol. How did you handle relatives when the doctor's timeline and theirs didn't match? The baby is fine, I'm the one getting the lectures.

Oh, the lectures. With my younger one it was ghee in everything from four months, according to my aunt. What helped was having one sentence ready, "the doctor is checking this at the next visit", and repeating it every single time. And I'd have a quiet word with your caregiver directly, so she knows whose instructions she's following ♥

Go with the doctor. Relatives also told us gripe water would fix every cry. It didn't.

I was one of those relatives once, with my grandson. My daughter told me, very politely, that the doctor sees him every month and I see him every Sunday. It was a fair point. Most grandparents do mean well; we just remember our own children and forget how much the advice has changed.

Our daughter is 21 now so don't trust my memory on dates, but I do remember the arguments were never about milk. They were about who gets the final word. Settle that one at home and the milk question becomes small 🙂
