EuroSchool Kukatpally from class 2: what do working parents do after the last bell?

moss_balcony_3915

We are looking at EuroSchool in Kukatpally for our daughter from class 2. She is in class 1 at a smaller school that stops at class 5, so another move was always coming. My theatre lists start early, which means I'm out before she is up and back by evening. My partner is at home this year, but that won't always be the case. What the website doesn't tell me is the afternoon. Does the school run any after-school programme, or do most working parents use a daycare nearby that collects children? If it's a daycare, are there ones close enough that the drop isn't a whole production in the rain? I'm also curious whether class 2 joiners are common there, or whether most children come up from nursery.

I can't speak for EuroSchool. Two things from watching my grandson's class, though. Ask the office directly whether they have an after-school option or a daycare they are used to working with; schools usually know which daycares collect from their gate. And ask how dispersal works for children going to a daycare rather than home, because that handover is where things go wrong in the first weeks.

The handover point is the important one. Our son comes home by school transport and the after-school care is a separate arrangement, and the gap between the two took us a month to sort out. The bus dropped him at 3.40 and the carer turned up at 4 'because school ends at 4'. Write down the real times for everyone involved, not the official ones.

We live in Kukatpally, though my daughter is much older and at a different school, so nothing on the school itself. On the area: there are plenty of daycares and activity centres in the colonies off the main road, and several put up boards about school pickups. Whether any of them cover that school, you would have to ask. The main road between 3 and 4 in the rain is slow, so a centre on the same side of the road as the school is worth a lot.

Up with the baby, hence the hour. Our daycare has a few older kids who come in after school. From what the staff told me, they only collect from schools within a short distance, and they want a minimum number of kids from the same school before they start a route. Worth asking any daycare you shortlist how many children they already bring from there.
