6on Five sentences about her aaji for class 2 homework, and sentence four was about me
What did the teacher underline in the others?
1on Class 7 daughter has to choose Hindi or French for next year, and she has strong opinions
'Someone at home can help' stops mattering by class 6 or so anyway. And more useful how? Speaking it, or marks? Those point to different answers. I'd ask her which one she would revise without being told.
1on Took my 17 year old to see a residential college. Her questions were not mine.
Food and wifi decide whether she's calling you upset in week three. She's asking the right questions. Leave the faculty ones to you.
3on Leaving a 13 year old home alone during an evening function
Yes, location's on and she knows why. That part is settled. The disagreement is whether three hours is different from one. I don't think it is, as long as she isn't cooking.
1on class 12 son does all his revision on a tablet. am i being old-fashioned?
What exactly are you worried about? Marks are fine. If it's his eyes, get them tested. If it's distraction, ask him to show you one evening of what he does. 'Can't tell which parts are studying' is a guess until you look.
2on Changing schools next year with a daughter who has type 1 diabetes. What did you ask at admission?
'Has a nurse' can mean full-time or someone who comes twice a week. Ask the hours, and who covers when she's on leave. Also ask who exactly gives the insulin on a day you can't come. You want the name of a role, not "we will manage".
1on My son's first 'dada' happened during my morning standup
Was your camera on? If yes, someone on that call has a recording. Ask.
0on My 3 year old has started copying the way a classmate talks
Watch what he's doing first. Copying to play with someone and copying to get a laugh look different, and at 3 it's mostly the first. Ask the teacher how they talk about the boy in class and use the same words at home. Don't make it a big no, or you'll get more of it.
2on Sat at the back of my son's popular maths tuition. It was an hour of copying
Gone up from what to what? And are his school tests mostly the textbook exercises? If they are, copying worked solutions and repeating twelve similar ones will lift marks. That's not nothing. The real question is whether he can do a problem he hasn't seen. Give him one at home this week and watch what he does.
0on Daycare settling-in needs a parent for three mornings, and my leave ends on Monday
Ask them what the parent is doing in the room for those three mornings. At my younger one's place it was mostly sitting in a corner while the staff watched how we fed and settled her. A written note on her routine plus one long morning covered most of it. If that's what they mean, a grandparent can do it. If they insist it must be you, ask why.
1on Our 10 year old's new best friend is the boy every parent in the class group talks about
'Stay outside the house' works at 10. At 13 you won't know half the words, or half the friends. The habit of him telling you things is the part to protect now.
1on New client wants a daily 3.30 call, which is exactly when I leave for school pickup
Daily 15 minutes with a new client rarely stays daily past the first month. I'd take it from a parked car for now.
1on On stage at my school on Independence Day while my daughter performs at hers
'Never start on time' isn't a plan. Ask her teacher where her class is in the order. Then you know.
2on Class 12 son asked if he could see the school counsellor. I said yes, then quietly panicked
Good news, fine, but she asked something specific: does she ask him. Once, lightly, then leave it.
2on Every word problem, she asks me 'is this a plus one or a minus one?'
Is she reading the whole question, or hunting for the numbers? Cover the numbers and ask her what is happening in the story. If she can't tell you, the maths isn't the problem.
Does he want to move? You've said what you think about the commute, not what he thinks.
3on Language swap between my son and the nanny, with a points table on the fridge
Who decides if a word counts? That's where ours would end in a fight.
1on admission form asks for 'mother tongue'. does what we write decide her second language?
Did the form say what it's used for? Some schools only use it for records. Others use it to sort language sections. Ask the office which. Don't guess.
0on My 11 year old wants to read whatever her 14 year old cousin is reading
'A girl who runs away' could be anything from an adventure story to something quite dark. What happens in it? That's the one I'd want to know about before the romance.
4on badminton coach moved the summer batch to 3 pm 'because the court is free'. it's 42 out
'Used to it' isn't an answer. How long is the session, and are there water breaks? A tin roof in May is the problem, not the time on the clock.
0on Class 1 report says 'not yet reading independently'. Do I do anything over the summer?
Ask the teacher what 'independently' means to them. A reading level, a particular book, or just that he doesn't pick up books on his own? 'Not yet' at six can mean very different things.
1on Video interview from home, door closed. My 2 year old walked in holding his potty above his head
Was the door not locked? Asking because I work from home too, and a lock is the only thing that has ever worked in our house.
