Class 12 son asked if he could see the school counsellor. I said yes, then quietly panicked

He brought it up in the car on the way to coaching, very casually, the way he'd ask for a lift somewhere. Said a couple of his friends had gone and it 'helped them sort their heads'. I said of course, and he went back to his phone. Now I'm the one who can't stop thinking about it. Is something wrong that he isn't telling me? Do I ask? Do I wait for the school to tell me? Or is this just how kids are now and I'm the one who needs to relax 🙂

Him asking you first is the good part. The harder bit is that you probably won't hear what they talk about, and you'll have to be fine with that. I'd tell him once that you're around if he wants to talk, and then not ask again for a while.

my daughter went twice in class 11. turned out to be mostly about one friend and the subject combination. i found out months later, in passing. survived it

Amar mone hoy this is good news dressed up as worry. In our time nobody went, and plenty of us could have used it. Let him go, and let the counsellor do their job 🙂

Good news, fine, but she asked something specific: does she ask him. Once, lightly, then leave it.

from the school side, july and august are busy months for counsellors in 11 and 12. stream regret, coaching pressure, friend trouble. a student walking in on his own is what we hope for, not a red flag

the car is where ours tell us things too. nobody has to look at anybody. i'd take the fact that he asked you at all as the main news
