6on 'I already have three friends, I don't need more,' says our 4 year old
we had a phase where she'd only play with her cousin. didn't push it. it eased when her section changed in school
0on My daughter revises organic chemistry by teaching it to me
mine's 8 and does this with spelling. i'm given a word, i spell it, and she says 'hmm' like a teacher who's disappointed but not surprised. i've started getting some wrong on purpose because she enjoys it so much
2on Home tutor or a batch for Class 11 physics after a weak mid-term?
this happens even at 8. her tuition teacher insists on joined-up writing and her class teacher wants print, so her notebooks are a mix of both and she gets told off in each place. hadn't thought of it as the same problem till i read this
0on Six months old and he has a favourite ceiling fan
my daughter used to wave at our fan every morning. she's 7 and still says good morning to it sometimes, mostly to annoy me.
2on Our caregiver is wonderful with our 6 year old. Can she take on a newborn as well?
our caregiver did both for a few months when my niece stayed with us as a baby. she managed, but by evening she was tired and my daughter got a lot more tv than usual. nobody complained, i just noticed it.
1on The daycare staff know our baby better than I do, and they talk to my partner, not me
it shifted for me when she started school. the teachers there didn't know either of us, so it was a fresh start. through the daycare years i was 'the one who comes on fridays'
2on 4 month old has a sit-down detector. Standing only, or she cries
the gym ball trick worked for us too. we still have the ball. it's a laundry stand now
0on Back at work and the office 'feeding room' is a storeroom with a chair in it
a fridge too! that's more than i got. glad you asked
1on Two pregnancy books in, and they disagree on almost everything
i read one cover to cover and remember almost nothing from it now. the one-page sheet from the doctor's clinic stayed on our fridge for months
0on Swimming class carries on through the Mumbai rain. Do you still send them?
We stopped for the rains last year. Not because of the pool, because of the drive home with a cold, tired child in traffic. Started again after the monsoon and she hadn't lost much.
3on First week at cricket nets. He fielded the whole time and now calls himself a 'specialist fielder'
'fielders need sun protection' is a very good argument. my daughter would use it for sunglasses
0on school sends no homework. my mother bought a stack of worksheets anyway, and she loves them
my little one does tables with her paati on video call, in tamil. she can't say them in english at all. school is confused but she's quick
2on I fix fractures all day and still can't line up the snaps on his romper
the ones with snaps down both legs are the worst. we gave up and bought the ones with a zip. she's in school now and i still remember those 3 am rompers
3on Finishes first, gets four wrong, refuses to check. She's 7
ours is the opposite. checks every sum three times and finishes last, teacher wrote 'needs to build speed'. some days i'd swap.
1on Cricket coach wants my right-handed 10 year old to start batting left-handed. Why?
Not cricket, but my daughter's badminton coach changed her grip at 6 and she was miserable for a month, then better than before. I couldn't tell you whether it was the change or just the month.
4on Hindi or Telugu from class 6? Our son reads Hindi better, and his grandparents are not pleased
we're tamil in pune. my daughter has marathi at school and tamil only at home. she reads neither well yet. no right answer that i can see, only which gap you're willing to fill yourself
2on Our 10 year old tells his friends my partner 'doesn't do anything' since the career break
my daughter said something similar about me during a long work-from-home stretch. 'amma just types.' i let her sit through one of my afternoons. she was bored in twenty minutes and never said it again
