Finishes first, gets four wrong, refuses to check. She's 7

Grade 1 report came home. 'Enthusiastic, finishes first, needs to review her work.' Same line all three terms. She does a page of sums in three minutes, four wrong, won't look at it again. 'I already did it.' Tried the rule that she checks before showing me. She checks the first sum only :D Anything that worked at this age? Or does it just come later

Mine was exactly like that in class 1 and 2. What helped a little was making her the teacher. She had to mark a sheet I'd done, where I put in two mistakes on purpose, and she loved catching me. Checking her own work came much later, around class 3, when marks started to matter to her.

my son got that remark from class 1 to class 6, nearly word for word. he's 14 now and still rushes, but he goes back over maths papers these days. mostly because he lost marks in one test he cared about. i don't think anything i said had much to do with it.

ours is the opposite. checks every sum three times and finishes last, teacher wrote 'needs to build speed'. some days i'd swap.
