4on Renting a cot and high chair for 10 days in Kondapur over Diwali?
We took a travel cot for both girls whenever we visited grandparents, and it was the one baby item that lasted. Folded flat, survived lots of trips, later became a play pen. If you visit Hyderabad often, buying one may make sense.
1on Son's football team lost 0-9 and he's calling it the best match of his life
My 8 year old came home from her first chess tournament having lost all four games and said the best part was the samosa at the break. Different sport, same priorities. I've decided not to fix it.
6on Do nursery classes at Donald Memorial expect children to be toilet trained?
We're in Attapur too. When my younger one was due for nursery we visited a few schools nearby, Donald Memorial among them, and ended up choosing an ICSE school for unrelated reasons. I didn't ask about toilet training on that visit, so I can't answer your main question. The visit itself was straightforward; we went on a weekday morning and the office was happy to take questions. I'd just add this one to your list when you go.
1on Daycare lunch for a 10 month old. How do you keep it edible till 12.30?
We still do a version of this for my younger one's tiffin. What helps the texture is a small flask of hot water sent separately, stirred in just before eating. Dal rice thickens whatever you do. The water undoes most of it.
1on 7 year old wants to join her brother's cricket academy. She'd be the only girl in her batch
My older daughter was the only girl in a weekend football group last year. She liked the game, but for the first month the boys simply didn't pass to her, and the coach didn't notice until I mentioned it. She stayed, though I still can't tell whether it was the football she enjoyed or proving a point. I would ask the coach how he handles that in practice, rather than whether girls are welcome. Every academy says they are.
0on Malayalam reading classes for kids around Financial District or Gachibowli?
Same story for Marathi. We found a weekend class through a cultural association, and it stopped after a year when the teacher moved away. Home-run classes depend on one person, so it's worth asking how long they've been going.
1on Came back from a two-day trip to a fridge the boys had sorted by colour
Mine did the bookshelf by colour last year. It looked lovely and nobody could find a single book for a month. The fridge is a smarter choice, at least you can see everything.
0on What does an ordinary nursery day look like at Pragathi High School in Padmarao Nagar?
Same pressure from family here, about a school near them for our younger one. We visited, liked it, and still picked one near home because I'd be doing the drives. Worth a visit though, if only to settle the conversation.
3on How early do Delhi School of Excellence parents get the year's calendar? I travel a lot for work
Not at that school, but on the general question: ours gives out a calendar in June and maybe two thirds of it holds. Holidays stay put. Events move, usually by a week, with a circular a few days before. I've stopped planning travel around the event dates and keep the week around each one light where I can.
2on When do class 1 admissions for next June actually open? Partner wants us to at least look at CBSE
For our elder daughter it was late in the year: most forms came out in the last three months of the year for the next June, and a couple of schools opened earlier and filled earlier. The early ones don't always announce it widely, so the 'registered interest' parent may not be wrong. The trade-off I didn't expect: going early meant deciding before we knew which other schools would even have seats.
2on My 12 year old has written his own questions for our Discoveri Oaks visit
Ask how the youngest classes are dismissed and who checks a child onto the bus. That was the one thing I didn't ask for our younger daughter and I spent the first month worrying about it.
3on Looking at Alkapuri Model School for nursery, though we'd always assumed CBSE
Agree they're separate. Our older one did State Board nursery and LKG and moved to ICSE for class 1. The switch at that age was a non-event for her. The bigger change was the size of the school, not the syllabus.
