Son's football team lost 0-9 and he's calling it the best match of his life

Under-9 friendly yesterday evening. They lost 0-9. Nine. The coach stopped counting out loud after six. My son got in the car glowing. He touched the ball twice, one of those times on purpose, and someone's dad shouted 'good effort' at him from the sideline. That's all he needed. He re-enacted his one tackle at dinner, again before bed, and once more this morning while brushing. His 14 year old sister asked what the score was and he said 'it doesn't matter, we played'. Not sure who taught him that but I'd like it in writing for her next exam result 😂

Please hold on to that line for later. My daughter is 17 and I would give a lot to hear 'it doesn't matter, we played' about anything at all right now.

Ha, this is the spirit. Mine is 7 and his skating batch had a mini race last month. He came fifth out of five and asked for celebration mishti. He got it 🙂

Whoever the dad on the sideline was, he deserves some credit too. Two words from an adult who isn't your parent can carry a child for a week.

Enjoy this stage. Our son is 12 now and his team keeps a spreadsheet of goals and assists. The joy is still there but it comes with a lot more arguing over who passed to whom. Which ground was this, if you don't mind? We're in Rajendranagar too and he's been asking about weekend friendlies.

My 8 year old came home from her first chess tournament having lost all four games and said the best part was the samosa at the break. Different sport, same priorities. I've decided not to fix it.

enjoy it while the joy is free. we paid for a full year of kit for my daughter's batch and she has now decided she doesn't like it. the 0-9 kid who loves it is the better deal
