0on Son wants commerce with maths in class 11, and I can't tell him where it leads
What does 'something with numbers' mean to him? Economics, finance and data go in quite different directions after school. I'd get him to name two or three courses he would apply to before anyone decides on the stream.
0on Last Diwali an elder called my son fat in front of everyone. What do I say this time?
Who is saying it? An elder on your in-laws' side and your own parent need different handling. A line that works on a distant uncle won't work on a grandmother who has been cooking for everyone since morning. 'Relatives' is too broad to give you a useful answer.
0on Small questions for the teacher at St. Jude's, Moula Ali. Diary, app, or wait for the PTM?
Which half story are you trying to check? "Ma'am was angry" could mean anything. Ask her what happened just before. That's usually the actual story.
1on My son still naps after lunch. What time does class 1 finish at Gowtham Model School, Moosapet?
Gave it up, or got too tired to complain? Asleep by 8 could be either. Ask how the first term went, not how it ended.
1on Ten months, thousands of baby photos, none printed. Did anyone make an album?
Back everything up before you start choosing. We lost a phone with four months of photos on it when our son was a baby, and the album has a gap nobody can fill. After that, be ruthless. Twenty good prints beat two hundred.
4on Hindi dictation is the one paper my 9 year old dreads
What exactly goes wrong? Matras, or words she doesn't know? Those are two different problems. My son's were matras. Ten words a day, written once, checked once. Nothing fancier.
1on 4 month old only naps on me during my work-from-home days
What do you mean by 'only'? Every single nap, or the long midday one? Those are different problems.
6on Father-in-law paid the hospital bill at discharge and won't let us pay him back
What exactly is the discomfort? That you owe him, or that he now feels he has a say? Those need different answers.
1on Class 1 show-and-tell: she took my old chest X-ray, and her teacher had questions
Did she point to the correct side for the heart, though? That's the real test.
0on Two boys, nursery and class 3, at Surya The Global School in Bachupally. How long is each one's day?
Why Bachupally? If it's for a work commute, check that first. The school question comes after.
1on My 10 year old wants a skincare routine. I'm a dermatologist.
Which products exactly? Face wash and sunscreen, no problem. Acids and serums at 10, ask him where he saw them. That answer is usually the real issue.
0on Pottery class on Saturdays in class 10. Keep it or drop it?
Two hours a week isn't what decides a board result. If her marks hold after the first term, keep it. If they drop, pottery won't be the reason, but it will be the first thing everyone blames. Decide now what you'll look at, so the relatives don't decide it for you.
0on A junior at my partner's office asked us about Vignan Vidya Niketan High School in Sainikpuri
This. Dispersal is when you hear the real complaints and the real praise. The admission office gives you the brochure.
0on How do families pick between the three boards at The Gaudium School, and can children switch later?
Ask them what happens to a child who wants to switch in class 6 or class 9. Not 'it's flexible'. Which classes, what assessment, any extra cost. If they can't answer that specifically at the desk, that tells you something too.
0on I handle everything for our son's school, yet every call still goes to my partner
Also check where the call comes from. Ours had the order right in the office software, but the class teacher kept her own list on her phone from the first week. Two separate lists. Nobody updates the second one.
0on Walking everywhere, but only while holding both my fingers. My back has opinions
Long ago now, but ours walked alone at fifteen months after weeks of exactly this. Everyone kept saying 'any day now' and it wasn't. They take their own time.
