4 month old only naps on me during my work-from-home days

violet_pebble_5341

My partner went back to the business this month, so I'm handling the days at home. Our son is 4 months old. He sleeps fine at night in his cot but in the daytime he only naps on my chest or in the carrier. Put him down and he's awake in five minutes. I've taken three client calls this week standing up with him in the carrier. Is this a phase, or did we create it?

My daughter also same. Only on my shoulder she was sleeping till 6 months, cot means crying. I used to keep my old dupatta near her, my smell, sometimes it worked. Slowly she started sleeping alone. Mostly phase only I think.

my son was exactly this at 4 months. it passed around 6 or 7 months without us doing anything clever. standing calls are impressive though

Phase, mostly. Contact naps at that age are normal. What made it manageable for us was doing one nap in the cot each day, usually the first one of the morning, and letting the rest be in the carrier. Trying to move every nap at once was a disaster.

One nap a day sounds possible. Tried the late afternoon one in the cot yesterday after reading this and he slept 35 minutes. Will try the first morning nap today.

What do you mean by 'only'? Every single nap, or the long midday one? Those are different problems.

Is the issue his sleep or your calls? If he's sleeping well at night and napping in the carrier, he's fine. The problem is the work setup. A carrier and a standing desk might be the actual answer.

I remember the carrier phase with my son. The one change that helped was waiting longer before putting him down, until his arms went completely limp, about fifteen to twenty minutes into the nap. Earlier than that and he woke every time. But I would not call it something you created. Many babies do this at that age.
