0on Would one year at Maples in Kukatpally be worth it for a 12 year old who wants a fresh start?
I don't know Maples, so only on the first question. A new school may end the nickname, but the comments from family will come again at the next function. With my grandson, what helped most was his parents speaking to the relatives themselves, quietly, so that he didn't have to. Has your son said whether he wants to move? At 12 his view should count for a lot.
0on 2 yr old climbed out of the cot twice this week. Floor bed time?
We moved my grandson to a mattress on the floor at about that age, after a similar escape. The first week he got up several times a night and walked to his parents' door, which was tiring for everyone. After that he mostly stayed put. What helped was making his room safe enough that wandering didn't matter: furniture fixed to the wall, nothing he could climb, a gate at the door so he couldn't reach the kitchen or the balcony. A toddler bed was not needed. The fall from a floor mattress is nothing.
4on Take my one week of paternity leave at the birth, or save it for later?
I agree, the visitors leave just when the tiredness starts. Could you ask whether your school would consider a few weeks of half days or a later start instead of one full week? Some schools agree to that for staff with a newborn, some don't, but it costs nothing to ask.
My grandson's Sunday cricket was at a school ground on the Secunderabad side for a term. Most parents dropped and left, and a few of us waited in the car with a flask of tea. For a two-hour session, waiting is pleasant once; every week, less so. You could ask the coach whether he would arrange a pickup point on your side if several families are coming from the west.
0on Back from paternity leave, and the 9 pm client calls land right on the baby's worst hour
With my own children, and later my grandson, that evening crying was at its worst around six weeks and had eased a good deal by three months. That doesn't help this week, but it does mean you are probably asking for a few weeks, not a year. Have you asked whether the call could start at 8? Clients often agree to a short-term change more easily than a permanent one.
4on Would Springdales in Balanagar let us sit in on an LKG class before we decide?
When my grandson's parents were choosing his school, one place let us watch outdoor play for about twenty minutes. That showed us more than the classroom would have, how the teachers spoke to the children who wandered off, mostly. It may be worth asking Springdales whether something like that is possible.
1on She writes pages of stories at home, then freezes at 'write a paragraph on your favourite festival'
At my grandson's school they fill a 'web' before writing: the festival in the middle, then when it falls, what we eat, what we wear, what I like. He fills the web in five minutes and the paragraph follows from it. It is very mechanical, and I was doubtful, but it does give a nervous child somewhere to start. You could draw one with her at home.
When I was on call and my children were small, a fixed split never held for long. What helped us was a written week on the fridge, even when it changed every Sunday. At least the change was on paper and not in someone's head.
0on creek planet's sr seeds primary campus in ameenpur. anyone whose child joined in class 2 or 3?
I can't speak for the school. I can say that the Ameenpur side has changed a great deal in the last few years, with many new communities, and the afternoon traffic towards the highway can be slow. If you do move, living within a short drive of the campus will matter more than you expect at that age. Small children tire quickly in a car after a full day.
0on 5 month old pulls at her ears all day. Her grandmother is sure it's an infection
Glad the doctor had a look. My grandson did the same at that age, always when he was sleepy, and his mother found it easier once she started reading it as a sign for a nap. It's a short stage, though it doesn't feel short while you're in it.
The steel bowls are a good thought, I still have a cupboard full of them. I'll ask about the words too. I had forgotten how much depends on those.
2on we gave our son my partner's surname. my parents still bring it up on every call
Speaking as a grandmother, I suspect your parents' worry is less about school friends and more about feeling left out of something. That may be worth addressing directly, once, and not late at night on a phone call. Is there some other way they are part of his name or his story? A middle name, a pet name they chose, a small ritual? Sometimes that softens things.
0on Full marks on the sums, 3 out of 15 on the 'application' section. What are these questions?
From what I've seen in my grandson's papers, these are the word problems where the question doesn't tell you which chapter it belongs to. A shopkeeper, a tank filling up, two trains. The maths is the same, the reading is the hard part. Has she shown you the paper itself? I would sit with her and ask her to say out loud what each question was asking, before looking at any working. With him the mistakes were mostly in the reading.
0on How much time outdoors do primary children get at The Global Edge School in Kokapet?
I live on that side and drive past the Kokapet stretch most mornings, but I have no inside knowledge of the school. What I would check first is the drive. From Attapur at school hours it can be long, and a boy who has to burn off energy before he can sit will not enjoy an hour in a van first. Do try the route at 7.30 on a weekday before deciding.
