Would one year at Maples in Kukatpally be worth it for a 12 year old who wants a fresh start?

My son is in class 6 at a big school. Since Dasara he has gone quiet about school. He's started getting spots on his face, relatives made a joke about it at a family function, a cousin who is in his class repeated it, and now there's a nickname. He hasn't told me much. I heard most of it from another parent. Maples The Complete School is close to us and goes up to class 7. A smaller school for one year is tempting, but it would mean moving him again for class 8, and I'm not sure if a new school solves the real problem or just the nickname. Has anyone moved a child for a single year like this? And if you know Maples, how do children who join in the senior classes usually settle in?

I don't know Maples, so only on the first question. A new school may end the nickname, but the comments from family will come again at the next function. With my grandson, what helped most was his parents speaking to the relatives themselves, quietly, so that he didn't have to. Has your son said whether he wants to move? At 12 his view should count for a lot.

Two moves in two years means two first days. I'd want to know whether the nickname is the whole problem before choosing that. Have you told his class teacher? A school can do something about a nickname only if it knows.

We had the relatives problem with marks rather than looks. What I learnt is that a child notices whether the parent says something in the room, more than what exactly is said. At the next function, saying 'we don't comment on his face' in front of him may matter more than which school he's in. No experience with Maples, sorry.
