Back from paternity leave, and the 9 pm client calls land right on the baby's worst hour

Two weeks back at work. Our daughter is two months old and between 8.30 and 10 every night she cries, and very little helps except walking her up and down. My partner has had her all day by then. Three nights a week I have a 9 pm call with a client team abroad. I take it on mute from the balcony with the baby on my shoulder, which works until I have to speak. Has anyone got a client to move a standing call for a reason like this? Or do you just get through these months?

With my own children, and later my grandson, that evening crying was at its worst around six weeks and had eased a good deal by three months. That doesn't help this week, but it does mean you are probably asking for a few weeks, not a year. Have you asked whether the call could start at 8? Clients often agree to a short-term change more easily than a permanent one.

we did a split. 8 to 10 was mine, partner slept. calls moved, mostly. the one that didn't, i did with a sleeping baby in a carrier and nobody on the call noticed 😂

You're the delivery head, so you're the one person who can ask for this without it sounding like a favour. Tell them it's for six weeks. Most clients I deal with have small children of their own and say yes faster than you'd think ❤️

Asked today. Two of the three calls move to 8.30 from next week. The third is a different team, still waiting to hear 🤷
