16 year old asked me how much the business makes. How much do you tell a teenager?

0on Every meal now ends with her food on the floor, one piece at a time
We put an old sheet under the high chair and washed it every day. It saved the floor, if not our patience. From memory, the throwing faded somewhere around eighteen months, along with a lot of other phases that seemed permanent at the time.
2on Class 10 daughter studying past midnight. Worth raising the workload with school?
My daughter did class 10 two years ago, ICSE, and the late nights started around this time of year for us too. We asked at the PTM in more or less the words you've used. The teacher was not offended at all. She went through which assignments were meant to be done in full and which were practice that could be skimmed, and that cut close to an hour on some days. It did nothing about the tuition worksheets. Those we had to take up with the tuition teacher separately, and that conversation was harder.
1on Class 2 maths paper came back. He solved the word problem and then argued with it
My daughter, around that age, answered 'how many legs do 3 cows have' with 12, then wrote 'but one cow is sitting'. She is in class 12 now and still adds conditions to every answer. Keep that paper.
1on Looking at Gowtham Model School in Kothapet so our son can come to the family shop after class
Our daughter spent her afternoons at the warehouse office for a year when she was small. Homework at a desk in the back, then home with me at six. Two things mattered: the desk was always hers, and staff were told not to send her on errands. Not ideal every day, but workable.
0on Class 4 son had answers written on his palm in a class test. Teacher sent a note
Better at 9 in a class test than at 15 in a board practical. Our daughter had a similar note in class 5. We didn't punish at home because the school already had. We made her redo the test at the dining table and talk through what she hadn't understood. It never came up again.
1on Traded the pencil box her ammamma gave her for a stone that 'changes colour in water'
I'd let this one go, unless the box was expensive or the other parent is likely to be upset when they find out. A bad trade at seven teaches more than any talk will. Ours traded away a watch at about that age and still brings it up.
1on Class 11 son says he wants to study pure maths, not engineering. Where does that path lead?
On the commerce point: my daughter's friends who took it are heading in quite different directions. Economics honours, a couple doing BBA, one preparing for actuarial exams, two doing CA. Worth showing your daughter that list before the relatives settle it for her.
3on Father-in-law paid the hospital bill at discharge and won't let us pay him back
I have a daughter. In his place, being repaid would feel like being told it wasn't my business. Put the amount into an account in the baby's name and tell him that's where it went. He gets to have paid, and you don't have to feel you owe him.
4on Daughter has a master's seat in my own department. I'd quietly hoped she'd go anywhere else
Ask her why she wants it. If it's the course, fine, you'll both learn to manage the corridors. If it's because it's easy and close, that's worth a conversation. I've seen in my own business what it does to a young person to be 'the owner's daughter' in every room. It can be done, but she should choose it knowing that.
2on Class 11 has no uniform, and my partner says mornings now include a wardrobe meeting
Mostly the money, if I'm honest. The mornings are my partner's problem and she seems amused by it so far.
0on CBSE to state board for class 3. How much Telugu would Little Hearts School expect?
Ours is older and at a different school, so only a suggestion. Ask them to show you the class 2 Telugu textbook they use. If she can read most of it, she'll catch up within a term. If she can't, a home tutor over the summer would be time well spent. Second language is usually where a mid-way joiner feels the gap first.
