Traded the pencil box her ammamma gave her for a stone that 'changes colour in water'

New pencil box, two weeks old, a gift from my mother. Came home without it. She swapped it with a classmate for a stone that changes colour in water. It does not change colour in water. 🤷 She's very happy with the deal. Do I ask the teacher to sort it out, or let her live with a bad trade? The other parent probably has no idea either.

  • I'd let this one go, unless the box was expensive or the other parent is likely to be upset when they find out. A bad trade at seven teaches more than any talk will. Ours traded away a watch at about that age and still brings it up.

My view is slightly different. At that age the other child may not know it was a gift either. A quiet message to the other parent, put as 'they swapped, are you fine with it?', can undo it without any drama. Is it something she can replace easily, or did it matter to her grandmother?
