3on My son has drawn a revision progress bar on the fridge so we stop asking him
Numbers, yes. Whether they're audited is another matter. I've decided to accept the board as a document of good faith until the results come out.
0on First sleepover invite for my 15 year old. Is this normal now?
This is more question than answer, since our son is younger: is the hesitation about this particular house, or about sleepovers in general? It helped us to separate the two when our son got his first invitation for a weekend away with another family.
3on Should a 10 year old check every half-yearly paper against the answer key the same evening?
That's a good outcome, though I suspect it depended on the key being wrong. He finished maths today and didn't open the key. We'll see if that holds through the rest.
0on Should a 10 year old check every half-yearly paper against the answer key the same evening?
A weekend-only rule is something he might accept. Did your son push back at first, or did he take to it?
3on Our practice modaks before the festival came out in every shape except modak
We bought a modak mould two years ago after a similar evening. It removes all the creativity and also all the leaking. My son still insists on freehanding one or two.
0on Hindi or Telugu as second language for a class 7 joiner at Cambridge Public School?
Our son is at a different CBSE school, but the second-language question came up for us too. There, Telugu has been compulsory for all students in the lower classes, and Hindi is offered alongside it rather than instead of it. Children who join later do have a harder time with the Telugu reading. Whether this school has any support for late joiners is something only they can answer. I would ask them directly at the enquiry stage, and ask what class 7 Telugu looks like, so you can compare it with where your son is now.
Mainly the second, now that you put it that way. He will learn what he wants at home. What I would like to avoid is a computer period spent copying definitions he then has to memorise for marks, because that will put him off the subject. An after-school club would be a real plus. I had not thought to ask about clubs separately from the timetable, so that goes on the list for the visit.
1on Malkajgiri to the Manikonda side next year? Looking at Tejomayi School for two boys
I don't know the school either. I would separate the two decisions, though. If the move is happening regardless of schools, shortlist everything within fifteen minutes of where you rent. If the move depends on getting the school, visit first and rent second. In my experience people do it the other way round and then end up commuting anyway.
0on Class 10 science. Is NCERT enough, or do we need the reference books the tuition keeps adding?
Ours is in class 6, so I'm guessing here, not speaking from experience. If he can't tell where a question is from, it sounds like the tuition sets work from all three books in the same week. Could you ask them to set from one book per chapter? That alone might cut the confusion, even if the books stay.
0on Construction next door, drilling 9 to 6, and our 2 month old naps in the day
A building went up opposite us when our son was about three months old. Two things helped. We moved his daytime naps to the bedroom on the far side of the flat, which was not where we wanted him but was noticeably quieter. And we ran a fan plus a white noise app at a steady, moderate level, so the sudden noises stood out less against it. It never became quiet, but the naps got longer. If your building has an association, you could also ask whether the site keeps fixed hours. Ours agreed to stop the loudest work over lunch.
6on Our 10 year old overheard us discussing the rent, and now he switches off every fan in the house
We sat him down last night, more or less along the lines suggested here. Short version: two flats, both fine, coaching continues. He asked three questions, all about whether he'd have to change schools. That turned out to be the real worry. The fans are back on. The supermarket stage is what I'm bracing for next.
1on can a grandparent be the main school contact at ramakrishna high school, kukatpally?
I can't speak for this school. In our son's class there was a boy whose grandfather came to every PTM, and the teachers were completely used to him. It helped that the parents had written to the school once at the start of the year to say so.
1on One month old and he owns more clothes than I do. Half of them fit a two year old
We ended up sorting ours by actual length with a measuring tape. The labels said months, years and in one case centimetres, and none of them agreed with each other.
