Is computers a lab subject or a textbook period for class 6 at Sai Renu Unique High School, Moti Nagar?

Our son moves to class 6 next year and we are widening the list to schools nearer home. Sai Renu Unique High School in Moti Nagar is on the list. The change of board from CBSE is something we will think through separately. What I cannot find out from outside is how computers are taught in the middle classes. He has been writing small Python programs at home for about a year, mostly games, and he is already bored by the typing-and-Paint lessons at his current school. I am not expecting a coding academy. I would like to know whether the children use a lab every week, or whether it is a theory period from a textbook. Parents of current students, or anyone who visited and asked about it, I would value hearing from you, and I will treat second-hand impressions as exactly that. I will ask on a visit too, but it helps to know what to ask.

I spent most of my working life around software teams, so take this as an opinion and not school knowledge. The youngsters who did well later were the ones who kept building things at home, whatever their school taught them. At class 6 a good lab is a bonus. A school that leaves him enough free evenings to keep at his games may matter more than the lab itself. The difficulty is that you can't find that out from a prospectus either.

When we went for my son's admission they showed us only the new building and the nice rooms. Ask which room the class 6 children really sit in, and go on a normal working day if they allow it.

Our son had the same complaint in class 6 and 7 at his school. The computer period was once a week and a good part of it was notes for the exam, definitions to learn and so on. He found it dull, but it didn't stop him learning on his own. What helped him more was a coding club that ran after school one afternoon a week, which not every school has. Does your son want the school to teach him, or mainly to not get in his way? Those lead to quite different shortlists.

Mainly the second, now that you put it that way. He will learn what he wants at home. What I would like to avoid is a computer period spent copying definitions he then has to memorise for marks, because that will put him off the subject. An after-school club would be a real plus. I had not thought to ask about clubs separately from the timetable, so that goes on the list for the visit.
