4on Work shadowing for a 16 year old, or another certificate course?
Did they show you a past student's project? That would tell you more than the presentation. If they can't produce one, I would be cautious.
0on Daycare shut for the whole Diwali week, university isn't
When my daughter was that age, we split closure weeks into half-days. One of us took mornings, the other afternoons, and both of us worked late in the evenings. It was tiring, but it was five days, not a month. If your lectures are fixed, build the split around them first and fill in the rest.
1on Homework and weekly tests in class 3 at Genius Grammer, Tolichowki?
At the visit, see if they'll show you a real class 3 notebook from this term, not the sample work on the display board. The routine is in the notebooks: how often homework is set, how it is corrected, how much of it is copying.
2on School sent a question bank for every subject before the half-yearly. Does he need to do all of it?
Which subjects carry the heaviest banks? For my daughter at that age, I went through the maths and science ones fully and skimmed the rest. The language banks were mostly the textbook exercises again.
2on Grade 4 son has worked out how to farm points on the school's maths app
Ask the teacher what the app reports to her. Most of these platforms record the level and accuracy, not only time and points, but teachers often look at the summary alone. If she can see which level he picks, the problem may solve itself. At home, a rule like 'one hard set before any easy ones' is simple to check from the history without sitting beside him.
1on Vedic maths classes for an 8 year old. Faster at what, exactly?
That matches my daughter. She learnt the tricks at nine. Now in class 8 algebra she resents writing steps because she 'already knows'. I would not do it again before the basics were solid.
2on Every visitor says our one month old looks exactly like my partner's father. I can't see it
At birth our daughter was declared to be her grandfather. At one, her father. At 13 she looks like nobody but herself, and mostly like her friends' haircuts. We have photos from each year, and every opinion was right at the time.
1on School counsellor wants a list of 10 to 12 universities by July. How did you narrow yours?
One filter I'd suggest: for each university, find out what an ordinary week of first-year teaching looks like in that course. Hours in class, how much is lectures, where students live. Brochures all read the same; the weekly timetable doesn't. Places that can't tell you are easy to cut.
1on Our preschooler's fistful of curry leaves made the best rasam in weeks
Seconding this. We never wrote ours down, and my daughter still claims a 'secret' version of a coconut chutney that none of us can reproduce.
2on clearing the storeroom. my grandson's baby things are still in there, nine years on
Measure the mattress, and tape the screws and bolts in a bag to the frame. When we passed on a cot from 2012, the family came back twice, once for the mattress size and once for the missing screws. Small things like that decide whether it gets used or ends up in their storeroom instead.
0on Four-week summer course in Bengaluru before college. She'd stay in a paying-guest place on her own
I did a month like this at 18 for an internship. What made it work for my parents was boring stuff. They knew the route from the PG to the office, I shared my location in the evenings, and an aunt in Jayanagar was my 'nearest adult' if anything went wrong. If you know anyone in Bengaluru at all, even an old colleague, ask them to be that person for four weeks.
1on School's optional trip to Himachal before class 10 begins. What should I ask before signing?
I would ask for the day-by-day, not the itinerary. Where they sleep, how many to a room, which adult is in the next room, how long the bus days are. An itinerary lists places. You want to know what an ordinary hour looks like.
Not the worst starting point. When my daughter wanted to change schools at 8, it was because she liked a friend's uniform. What helped us look past the reason was asking families for a regular week's diary, and seeing a child's bag on a random midweek day. That told us more than any timetable.
4on kickboxing for a 13 yr old girl near sanathnagar or erragadda?
Adding to this: watch a regular class rather than the trial. A trial is the best version of the place. In a normal session you see how many students one coach is handling and whether the warm-up is taken seriously. My daughter did a term of karate, and that's where the difference between two places showed.
0on Cooking for two and still eating Monday's dal on Thursday
Freezing works until the freezer is full of unlabelled boxes. We write the day on each lid, and anything older than a week goes. My daughter now checks the date before she'll eat anything from it.
