Cooking for two and still eating Monday's dal on Thursday

citrus_pool_9816

It's just my son and me. I still cook as though for four: a big pot of dal, a sabzi, rice or chapatis. By Thursday we are eating Monday's dal, and he has started to notice and comment. What does an ordinary week of dinners look like in a two-person house? Do you cook smaller amounts every day, or cook once and freeze? I'd like a routine that survives my teaching weeks, not a weekend project.

three of us and one is 2, so basically two. we cook dal twice a week and freeze half in small boxes. sabzi we just make fresh, small quantity. still end up with leftovers 🤷

Freezing works until the freezer is full of unlabelled boxes. We write the day on each lid, and anything older than a week goes. My daughter now checks the date before she'll eat anything from it.

Labels I can manage. Whether a 12 year old will eat a dal he has already seen twice that week is the real test. Trying it from Monday.
