clearing the storeroom. my grandson's baby things are still in there, nine years on

a cot, a wooden high chair, a baby bath, two big cartons of toys, a ride-on that plays a tune nobody can switch off. his mother says give it all away. i'm told cots have changed and nobody wants old ones. is any of this still useful to a family with a small baby, or should most of it go to the scrap man

We gave away our daughter's things when she was five, to our watchman's family and a neighbour's relative. The toys and the bath went the same day. The high chair nobody wanted, it was too big for their kitchens. Ask in your own building first. People take things more easily from someone they know.

building first is a good idea. the watchman here has a small one, i'll ask him. the high chair is heavy teak so you may be right about that one

If the high chair doesn't find a home, please don't send it to scrap! We have a 4 month old and I've been looking for a wooden one because the plastic ones in the shops wobble 😄 Kondapur isn't far from you. If the watchman's family passes on it, post here again?

  • Measure the mattress, and tape the screws and bolts in a bag to the frame. When we passed on a cot from 2012, the family came back twice, once for the mattress size and once for the missing screws. Small things like that decide whether it gets used or ends up in their storeroom instead.
