3on 21 year old asks for small amounts every few days. Would a fixed monthly amount stop the friction?
We're a step behind you with a 17 year old. What I have noticed is that the friction is less about the money than about being asked to justify it. We give her a weekly amount for travel and food at coaching, and I don't ask where it went unless it runs out early.
4on Tuition centre wants my class 3 daughter to take an entrance test. For tuition.
For class 11, my daughter's coaching had a test and there it made sense. For a class 3 child, a 40 minute test sounds like more than a placement check. On the other hand, if she is placed in a group that matches her, she might enjoy it more. I would let her write it only if you would be fine walking away whatever the result.
2on Are Saturdays a school day for nursery at Sri Sai Grammar School, Dilsukhnagar?
That matches what we saw years ago with our daughter. Nursery had Saturdays off, from class 1 it was second and fourth Saturdays, and by middle school most Saturdays were working. Since you're planning around a caregiver, worth asking what happens after nursery as well.
1on Caught my class 6 son in three small lies this week. Nothing serious, which is what bothers me
We ended up somewhere close to that, though it took us longer. With our daughter the small lies at that age were mostly about avoiding a fuss, not hiding anything. They dropped when we stopped asking questions we already knew the answer to, as a test. Asking 'did you bathe?' when the towel is dry invites the lie. Saying 'your towel's dry, bath now please' doesn't.
1on one thunderstorm last week and now he wakes at 3 every night pointing at the window
Something similar happened in our old building, when the generator started up one night. Our daughter woke at that same hour for weeks after. We tried several things. It faded on its own in about three weeks, and I could not tell you which of them helped.
6on Pregnancy brain hit at board game night. I couldn't explain a game I taught everyone
Winning without remembering the rules is a real skill. Our daughter does the same with card games at family functions. Claims she's still learning, then collects every chip on the table.
4on Elder son is in class 10 and wants hotel management. Which stream keeps that open?
Before the stream question, let him spend a week in a working kitchen during the Dasara break if you know anyone with a restaurant. We did something similar with our daughter at our factory office when she talked about business. A week of the real routine told her more than a year of discussion. She's still interested, but for different reasons now.
0on EuroSchool Kukatpally from class 2: what do working parents do after the last bell?
We live in Kukatpally, though my daughter is much older and at a different school, so nothing on the school itself. On the area: there are plenty of daycares and activity centres in the colonies off the main road, and several put up boards about school pickups. Whether any of them cover that school, you would have to ask. The main road between 3 and 4 in the rain is slow, so a centre on the same side of the road as the school is worth a lot.
4on Offered a lead role, but the 8 am calls start before our caregiver arrives
These roles come round again more often than it feels at the time. I turned one down when my daughter was small and was offered something similar about eighteen months later. That isn't guaranteed, but 'no for now' doesn't always mean no.
2on The post-delivery laddus were meant for my partner. Three months on, I'm the one finishing them
In our house the second batch came because I had finished the first. My mother-in-law has never let me forget it, and that was sixteen years ago.
0on school sends no homework. my mother bought a stack of worksheets anyway, and she loves them
Children often enjoy the thing that has a clear end. Four pages, a sticker, done. Open-ended school work doesn't give them that. The only tradeoff I'd watch is whether the worksheets start to feel like the 'real' work and the school's reading becomes optional. With my daughter it went that way for a while around that age, and it took some effort to bring the reading back.
1on Son has one backlog from third year, and placements want none
Our daughter is two years from college, so this is a guess from outside. If he says it's under control and the exam is this month, I'd hold off until the result. If it goes badly, that's when he'll need you, and he'll come to you more easily if you didn't push before.
1on Class 6 in June, and she's asking for a tuition because 'everyone has one'
Ours started tuition in class 7 for much the same reason. For the first year the friends were the real draw. By class 9 it had become useful for maths. It also never stopped, which is exactly your worry. I'd agree only if you settle in advance on when you'll review it, say after the first unit test.
1on He's 10, watched one horror clip at a friend's place, and now the light stays on all night
This matches what we saw. It was never the dark itself, it was one picture stuck in the head. Ours slept with the corridor light on for about a month, then one night switched it off herself, and nobody said a word about it.
3on how do quieter children get on at marvel high school in gandipet? thinking about a later move
Our daughter was quiet at 10 as well. We moved her to a smaller school at 12. She did get noticed more, but she also had nowhere to hide on the days she wanted to, and the first year was harder than we expected. By class 9 she was fine. I'd do it again, but I wouldn't promise her it'll be easier straight away.
