Pregnancy brain hit at board game night. I couldn't explain a game I taught everyone

lilac_kite_9942

Hosted our monthly board game evening on Saturday. I picked the game because I'm the one who brought it to the group two years ago and I know it best. Got halfway through the rules and blanked. Completely. A friend had to read the rulebook out loud while I sat there nodding like a first-timer. Then I won, which somehow made it worse, because everyone assumed they'd let me. They hadn't. I checked. 😂

My partner forgot our own wifi password around that stage and blamed the router for a week. It does come back, mostly.

Winning without remembering the rules is a real skill. Our daughter does the same with card games at family functions. Claims she's still learning, then collects every chip on the table.

Same in our house with carrom. My daughter beats me and both her brothers, then says beginner's luck. Three years she is a beginner now.

the bit about checking whether they let you win is very familiar. my 9 yr old asks that every time she beats me at chess, and every time the answer is no

two kids later and i still can't remember the rules of anything. you just get better at pretending to read the box

The last line made me laugh. Next month appoint someone else as the rules person and keep the winning job for yourself.
