Elder son is in class 10 and wants hotel management. Which stream keeps that open?

He cooks for the family most Sundays and has watched every kitchen show going. This week he told us he wants hotel management and doesn't see the point of PCM in ISC. I'm not against it. I just don't know whether science, commerce or humanities in 11th makes any difference to that path, or whether he should keep science 'just in case', which is what every relative has said so far.

My worry would be the hours more than the career. A friend's son did hotel management after 12th. The training year meant long kitchen shifts on his feet and festival days at work. He still loves it, but she says nobody warned them about that part.

Does he want to cook, or run a place? They are different paths. Science in 11th keeps every door open, but it costs him two years of physics he may hate, and that has a price too.

Slightly disagree. If it's the running-a-place side, commerce keeps that better than science does. The 'just in case' science route is mostly for the relatives.

      Replying to @indigo_drum_7316

my son bakes every weekend and has never once said chef. so if yours is saying it at 15 i'd take it seriously

Before the stream question, let him spend a week in a working kitchen during the Dasara break if you know anyone with a restaurant. We did something similar with our daughter at our factory office when she talked about business. A week of the real routine told her more than a year of discussion. She's still interested, but for different reasons now.

Ours changes every term, so I'm in no position to advise. Last term vet, this term 'something in films'. Does he cook only on Sundays or would he do it on a school night too? That might tell you something.
