21 year old asks for small amounts every few days. Would a fixed monthly amount stop the friction?

My daughter is 21 and in her final year. She asks for money in small amounts, a few hundred for a cab, a thousand for project material, every few days. Each request is reasonable on its own. What isn't working is that whenever I ask what it's for, she hears distrust, and I hear her irritation as a lack of planning. I'm considering a fixed amount transferred on the first of each month, covering travel, food outside and project costs, with anything beyond that discussed in advance. For those who have done this with a college-age child: what did you include, and how did you handle the first month when it ran out early?

Same in our house. Daughter is 22, away for her master's. We moved to a fixed monthly amount in July. Far fewer messages, but now the last week of every month has a "small emergency" 🙂 Still figuring that part out.

We're a step behind you with a 17 year old. What I have noticed is that the friction is less about the money than about being asked to justify it. We give her a weekly amount for travel and food at coaching, and I don't ask where it went unless it runs out early.

Before fixing an amount, list exactly what it covers: travel, food, phone, books, project material, outings. We left books out the first time and that became the reason for every extra request. Keep irregular costs on a separate line with a cap, so the monthly figure stays a monthly figure.
