2on Anything sporty around Tellapur that takes 4 year olds, or do we just wait?
Swimming was the only thing we started that young. Less about sport, more that I wanted her safe around water.
2on My daughter revises organic chemistry by teaching it to me
That 'hmm' does not go away, I can tell you. At 17 it comes with a raised eyebrow. Getting some wrong on purpose is wise. I have not needed to try.
2on How do you decide what goes to the paediatrician and what the family can settle?
Write the doctor questions down before the visit. Consultations are short, and a written list gets every question answered. A list carried in your head usually loses two of them by the time you're in the room.
2on Called a daycare about their waitlist. First question was the baby's name
Seventeen years ago a crèche asked us the same question about our daughter before she was born. We gave a name we did not end up using.
2on Evening sitter for two hours, three nights a week. Does that arrangement exist?
Two hours is hard to fill. Most people looking for work want a full shift. Ask your daytime help, if you have one, whether she knows someone who wants evening work.
0on School pickup rota with two other families keeps breaking on the same family's day
Have you told her it's become a pattern? People often don't keep count. A short message with the dates, no adjectives, usually does it.
0on Cousin's wedding in December. Our class 12 daughter wants to be there all four days
Same in ours. The date was fixed before anyone looked at a school calendar.
2on Group project at a classmate's house on Saturday, and I've never met the parents
A phone call with the mother is enough. Ask who will be home and what time to collect him.
1on Class 7 rep elections on Friday. Daughter wants me to write her speech, with jokes
Let her write it herself. Read it once and point out anything that won't be heard at the back of the room. My daughter lost hers in class 7 and still says it was the most useful two minutes of that year.
0on Summer homework says 'a project on any topic of your choice'. She's 7.
The cat is fine. Make it a chart: what it eats, where it sleeps, a few drawings or photos, three or four lines she writes herself. At 7 the teacher is checking that she did something on her own, not grading the topic. We went through this every summer for years.
3on A two year old patient checked my teeth after I checked hers
Toddlers in my clinic read the eye chart back to me. Usually the wrong line, very confidently.
1on Maths tutor of three years is moving cities in May. What do you look for in the next one?
Ask the candidate to teach something she already knows well, and watch whether they find the gap or just go through the chapter. We did that before class 9. The second person we tried was quiet but found two weak spots in twenty minutes. We kept him.
