0on What do you send in the daycare food box for an 8 month old?
Has the daycare said why there's no fridge for the infant room? For four hours that's the thing I'd push on, not the menu.
2on Three months after the birth and my hair is coming out in handfuls
My partner had the same at about that point. Her doctor ran blood tests for thyroid and iron first; both came back normal and the shedding slowed down by around six months. Hairstyle-wise, she cut it shorter, which made the regrowth less obvious.
2on Class 2 report says 'reading fluency needs improvement'. Teacher couldn't say what to work on
Words per minute I can work with. Expression I'm less convinced is a real problem at this age. He reads like he's announcing train timings, but he understands all of it. Will ask for the number on Monday.
2on Rounding off in maths this week. Now everything at home is 'approximately'
Ask him to round the chapatis to the nearest ten next time. He'll become precise very quickly.
6on Packing food for a toddler on a five-hour train journey to Vijayawada
'Fine for a few hours.' How many? Five hours of travel plus however long it sat before you left is a long time in August. We carried a small insulated box with an ice pack for anything with curd and didn't regret it.
1on lice again. third time since june for my 6 yr old
Ask the class teacher to send a general notice. They won't name anyone and you don't need them to. Third time is reason enough.
1on kids' yoga in our clubhouse for my 5 yr old. real exercise or just an hour of quiet
'A lot of energy by evening': how late is he going to bed? Ours was the same at 5 and the real issue turned out to be sleeping at 10.30, not too little exercise.
0on Paediatrician says my 6 year old needs 'more protein'. More than what?
Useful, thanks. Soya chunks or the granules? He picked every chunk out the last time we tried.
3on younger one started class 9 and his brother's class 11 friends have adopted him at lunch
Ask the older one what exactly is being ruined. Usually it's one specific thing, like the younger one repeating their stuff at home.
1on Class 2 timetable has eleven subjects. Is that normal now?
Count periods, not subjects. If GK is once a week, it's a period, not a subject. Ours had a list like this in class 1 last year and only five of them ever came home.
2on School's optional trip to Himachal before class 10 begins. What should I ask before signing?
Also ask who decides when a child is sent home, and who pays for it. 'We will inform parents' is not a plan.
0on 11 yr old wants a proper football coach. Apparently I don't count
And ask what an hour looks like minute by minute. Half of what we paid for in Pune was warm-up laps and standing in a line.
1on Is it normal for a daycare to keep crawlers in a playpen most of the day?
A random visit tells you about one day. Ask for numbers instead: how many babies, how many staff in that room at a time. If it's one adult for six crawlers, the playpen is the answer and asking nicely won't change it.
0on Forty minutes between getting home and bedtime, and both kids want all of them
What happens if it's one activity they're both part of? Track on the floor, the younger one on your lap watching and handing you pieces. Or does each of them specifically want you to themselves?
1on My partner reads the morning market update to our baby
Is it the content or the voice? I suspect any monotone works. I tested this with release notes. It works.
0on Both of her daycare teachers left in March, and drop-off is back to week one
How long since the new teachers started, two weeks or six? And is it only drop-off, or has her eating or napping there changed too? If it's drop-off and the photo shows her playing ten minutes later, that's a transition. If the day itself has changed, ask them what exactly they've seen, not 'is she okay'. You'll always get 'she's fine' to that.
