two months in. he loves the animal poses and the 'sleeping' at the end. the instructor now wants them to hold each pose for 30 seconds and he lies on the mat and giggles is yoga at 5 doing anything for him or should i put him in something where he runs around. he has a lot of energy by evening

If he loves the animal poses, it's doing something! My son did a similar class at 5 and mostly remembers the lion breath. He moved to football at 7 because he needed to run. Maybe both? Yoga at the weekend, running around downstairs on weekdays ❤️

    • From the clinic side, I'd separate two things. Five-year-olds generally aren't expected to hold a pose for long, so the giggling isn't a sign that anything is wrong. Whether it's enough exercise depends more on the rest of his day than on this one hour.

Clubhouse yoga lasted a year for our daughter. Her big achievement was teaching her aaji the tree pose 🙂 She swims now and is much happier. At 5, if he enjoys it, I'd keep it.

What did the instructor say the 30 seconds is for? If the only answer is 'discipline', it's a class designed for older kids being run for 5 year olds.

Not necessarily. My son's karate sensei made the small ones hold a stance for 30 seconds too. Most couldn't. The point was trying, not holding.

Ours runs around the society for an hour after school and still has energy at 9. One clubhouse hour won't settle that either way. Keep it if he likes it.

'A lot of energy by evening': how late is he going to bed? Ours was the same at 5 and the real issue turned out to be sleeping at 10.30, not too little exercise.
