Class 2 timetable has eleven subjects. Is that normal now?

English, Hindi, Marathi, maths, EVS, computers, GK, value education, art, music, PE. She is seven. I'm not against any of them on its own. What I want to know is which ones have tests and homework, because the timetable doesn't say and the welcome note only says 'holistic'.

Similar list in class 2 here. Tests only in the main five. The rest were activity periods.

Count periods, not subjects. If GK is once a week, it's a period, not a subject. Ours had a list like this in class 1 last year and only five of them ever came home.

Our two are at an IB school, so the list looks different. Friends with children at CBSE and state board schools say the written tests usually stay with the languages, maths and EVS, and the rest have a notebook at most. Your welcome note's 'holistic' might mean exactly that.

The useful question is which of these are assessed and which are exposure. Ask the class teacher at the first meeting for whatever assessment plan they follow. If the school can't tell you which subjects carry marks, that is worth knowing too.

Eleven sounds like a lot until you see four of them are basically play 🤷 In class 2 our daughter had art, music, PE and library, and she loved those four more than anything else on the list.

Fair. Eleven minus four that are play is seven, which sounds less mad. Still asking the teacher which ones get tested.
